    I've read the thread "How heavy is the modular bay battery" which briefly contemplates this.

    2 Questions:

    1) The Main battery (10.8V 4800 mAh, 51.8 Watt Hour ) is $129, (shipping weight 1 lb)
    The Modular battery (10.8V 3800 mAH 41.0 Watt Hour) is $149. (shipping weight 2lb)

    (Fujitsu Website:"Up to 4.8 hours using main battery, or 8.5 hours using dual battery capability "

    It appears a no brainer to buy a secondary main battery in this case:
    the modular:
    - does not provide as much juice as the main (dual battery life is not twice the life of a single main);
    - weighs more than the main and
    - is more expensive

    Am I missing something?[?] Besides the potential problem of having to shut down the computer to switch batteries, why WOULDN"T you go for the 2nd main battery in lieu of the modular one?

    2) Aim I silly to buy a Fujitsu battery (am I just paying for a name)--do other batteries work just as well -- or should I stay with the the battery from the manufacturers.

    Thanks so much!

    I think a lot of people would rather just have two batteries install simulataneously, and not have to bring an extra one with them and have to swap them with the first battery runs out. I guess it is a matter of personal preference.

    Keep in mind also that the modular is not twice as heavy as the main. I'm sure they simply don't deal in fractional shipping weights. As for the brand, I'd pay the premium for battery...other things no, but a good battery is much better than a marginal one.

    well, two main battery doesn't provide you twice the life of a single one either. Think about it, you are not waiting until the last 30seconds before the it run out of juice to shut down and replace the battery, you do way before that. Not to mention, if you look at the manual for the battery. It tell you that you should not empty Litium Ion battery too often.
