Not my original idea, it works perfect on my 6807, thanks a lot for the guy invented it!!!

I found this post on a Chinese forum, can wait to translate it and share with you guys.

This soft-mod method is limited to mobility radeon 9600/9700 series
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
    First step, software preparation

    1. FreeFireGL_8x00, modified pro driver from Russian

    http://www.hardwarelab.ru/files/FreeFireGL_8x00.exe

    2. pro driver from ATI, only v8.062 is working, not newer or older

    http://file2.mydrivers.com/display/ATI_firegldisplaydriver-8062.exe

We need one dll file from it

note: this is a Chinese driver site, find other souces like driverguide if you can't download.

    3. DriverCleaner, remove your old drivers

    http://www.drivercleaner.net/

download the free version, that's enough
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
    Second step, old driver removal

Uninstall your old driver from windows control panel---add/remove programs
If you are using omega driver, use their uninstaller.
Make sure that you uninstalled everything, control center, hydra vision, drivers, etc.

Restart your laptop, press F8 during boot, and then choose safe mode.
Use administrator to login, install drivercleaner, run it, choose ati, remove any leftovers.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
    Third step, install FreeFireGL_8x00

Restart your laptop from safemode and boot it normaly.
The system will find new hardware and try to install drivers with wizard.
Before go on with it, unzip the FreeFireGL_8x00.exe to a folder

    IMPORTANT:
don't let the system search for drivers, use "choose driver by myself", and then use "install from disk"

find the inf in FreeFireGL_8x00 folder, XP2K6414.INF£¬system will find a series hardware from that inf file,

use "Mobility FreefireGL T2 (4E54)", install.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------
Fourth step, replace a file from ATI pro driver

unzip ATI pro driver (v8.062), find atioglgl.dl_ from folder

X:ATIFireGL display driver2KXP_INFB_18414 , X is where you unzipped it.

copy atioglgl.dl_ to C: root, get into command mode(win+r, cmd), cd.. to C: root

use command: "expand atioglgl.dl_ atioglgl.dll" to expand it.

use the expanded atioglgl.dll replace the one in windowssystem32,

    reboot

    done.

you can use radlinker as ati control panel
    http://users.adelphia.net/~webspace/RadLinker2030.zip
the only imperfect part is that there will be no OpenGL control in the display properties.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
SPEC Viewperf test is amazing, just like FireGL T2 posted on other sites.

Now, My lovely emachine turns into professional DTR :p

I'm not a game fan, just want to get the most out of my hardware.

This mod will not do any good to your game performance.

Atitool is still working, you can overclock your 9600 as usual, I do observe some problem in SPEC viewperf test after oc though.

for fun, just like oc my laptop to get 1 sec less in SuperPI.
I think that's a good enough reason for somebody like me.

Thanks for asking, because you are the first reply [ :)]

BTW, this method is good for any laptop with M9600/9700 chips, so there might be somebody getting more benifits out of it---those who'd like to do 3D stuff on their laptop.

I might try MAYA on it if you need more serious reason[ :D].
Cause my 6807 is the most powerful computer I'v gotten, unfortunately[V].

    I like my 6807!

Does someone have a mirror for FreeFireGL_8x00? The link on hardwarelab doesn't work anymore (their files section only contains forsage drivers now, which don't work too well in CAD).
    I would really appreciate it.

    edit:
    I found a link:
    <url>http://218.28.45.167/listaudio/up/FreeFireGL_8x00.exe</url>

    edit2:

This doesn't work for me (MR9700 4E50 - 256MB), the driver works, but the open-gl driver protection is still present. Using the opengl extensions viewer I can confirm the driver doesn't work (for me).
too bad! I do a lot of SW2005 designing on my laptop, any performance gains are more than welcome.

I'm sorry for the missleading words in my post.

I shouldn't just copy and paste everything in the original site.

M9600 is based on R350 core, which is the same as FireGL T2, or similar

M9700 is based on R360 core, which is the same family as 9600XT, 9800XT and FireGL9800(FireGL X2-256)

There is no counterpart of mobility FireGL products for M9700, the only way to hack it may be following the way to hack 9600XT. That will need Rivatuner and other tools.

I will update this if I find something related.

    sorry again

    I like my 6807!

So I have finally got round to checking out this mod.. I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 with Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo (similar card to lydmov). I have found all the files/drivers, I have patched things in SoftFireGL (which turned on FireGL T2, but with lots of problems), I have FreeFireGL 6368. but I cannot find the **** FreeFireGL_8x00.exe anywhere which seems to be the only driver which can do mobility. Does anyone still have this file or a link to a download (www.hardwarelab.ru/files/FreeFireGL_8x00.exe is dead).

OR maybe I am doing something completely wrong and should get back to work.

FYI different video drivers won't change super pie times.

errr... not sure if you referred to my request but these drivers speed up my viewports when working with 3d programs such as pro engineer/rhino/3dmax by turning my 'gaming' Radeon into a 'professional' FireGL, opening up various parts of the card that have been locked. I managed to turn my graphics card into a FireGL T2 and pro engineer did work like 5 times as fast (did not bother with specviewperf tests as it came with its problems - screen had huge black stripe on right and crashed regularily as it was not developed for laptop but for desktop cards).

for a specviewperf comparison based on this softmod....
    http://www.nvworld.ru/php/viewtopic.php?t=7388&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=120

Instead the file I need to do a fully working patch (as mobility cards are included)........is the illusive FreeFireGL_8x00.exe
