I just got the BigFix message today about updating the BIOS on my m6809 for better compatibility with SP2. I did the update, and while everything seems to be OK, when I check to see what BIOS I have, it says it's dated in August, 2004 (although it shows it was updated today.) Does this make sense? So then why did it take them nearly a year to tell me about it? (Especially since they made it sound urgent-- and mandatory.)

Did you have any BIOS related issues before your upgrade? The m6805 did and that is why they released it to us first. The 6809 already had a newer BIOS and probably didn't need the upgrade. You could have found it and upgraded as early as last September or so, but you didn't need to. eMachines is funny that way. Most upgrades come from the chip makers (VIA, Realtek, ATI etc.).

I don't know if I had any BIOS-related issues-- the only problem I recall relating to SP2 was the DEP thing.

By the way, I had a Commodore VIC-20 too! Did you have the attachment that loaded programs from cassette tapes?
