I have a emachines eMD620-5777 laptop. I have tried to open up the bottom to upgrade the memory. it however, will not open up despite all the screws being out. I'm wondering if anyone has any specific instructions on how to do a memory upgrade yourself on this unit. i think its also called a m5777.

i had googled for specific instructions on this particular laptop, and found one other man, who didn't know how to get it open despite the screws being out. if anyone knows how, or can point me to specific instructions, that'd be great.

also, will this laptop accept more than 2gb of memory ? maybe i should have gotten 4 instead of the two, i didn't want to push it though.

If you have'nt already found out. the bottom panel snaps out after all the screws are removed, use a small flathead screwdriver to very lightly pry all the way around. I have installed 4gb of GSkill branded memory in my m5777. Using the original speed of memory that came with the laptop PC2-5300. Two days running and not a problem.

thank you so much. you saved me $15 to have someone come out to my home and do it. i would have tried that, but i was scared of forcing anything.

    thanks so much

Nice, I was just about to ask the same question ;). I have an eMD620-5517 from WalMart. Unfortunately there are no specs on what memory would be required. The eMachines support website for the 5777 indicates "DDR2 800 MHz, (PC2-6400)" memory, whereas the manual states DDR2 667MHz which is similar to an Acer Extensa 4420?

this machine comes stock with PC2-5300 ram modules. You can use PC2-6400, but watch out when maxing the ram

    cheers ...

This laptop can use 4GB of DDR2 5300. I just upgraded mine over the weekend and its going fine, doesn't get too hot and seems to be something emachines was trying to hide. This laptop uses the AMD RS690MC chipset which can handles 4GB.

I have looked at Kingston and Crucial's web-sites and both state that the maximum memory for this laptop is 2GB with a maximim of 1GB per bank.
I would love to add 4GB, as 2 users have suggested in this thread, but I want to be sure that it is possible. To the 2 users that have 4GB, are you sure that Vista basic recognizes all 4GB(or even 3GB) of memory?
Thanks so much for the replies.

Vista SP1 will recognise all 4gb og ram. Now taking advantage of all the recognised ram is another story.

There's nothing Vista can do about it if there is a BIOS/Motherboard limitation. Not saying this laptop is limited, just in general.

There is nothing any OS can do if there is a BIOS/Motherboard limitation, in any laptops.

We were discussing/inputing about a specific model, not in general.

    cheers ...
