I just ordered a Compaq R3000T after having to return my R3000Z which had the AMD 64 3400+ cpu. I returned it because it came with a horriable gpu the geforce 440 go. So now my computer will be here today or tomorrow. I was just looking online and say info on the M6809 and the spec's look great!!! Unbelieveable really. I just don't have experience with eMachines and wanted to know more about there warrty coverage and what is best buy's return policy on the unit? It's lighter (not a big deal) has the AMD 64 I want with a 9600 radeon! (big deal) The only knock I can see really is the speed of the harddrive. I see online its sold out at Bestbuy so sense I think they make me pay tax anyway I might go in to check it out in the store if its there. But to my main reason for posting, I was wondering if there are any sites or articles with reviews of eMachines as a company and how is their tech support. I did read myself you have to pay long distance fee's to talk to them the first year and they have mail in service. The long distance I don't care about because I'll use my cell phone but what about the rest of there service? I can if I choose to return my computer with in 30 days at no cost to my self. the spec are here at the bottom. After my rebate I paid 1,441$ so let me know what you think about value and performance. I want power to play games and a little battery life maybe 3 hours....DVD burning also!

I'm not interested in buying one since it doesn't match the specs I'm looking for, but how reliable are these things? The desktops were pretty shoddy, but I haven't heard much bad about the laptops yet.

ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 64 MB
Pretty good for 2002 isn't it?

Yah, it is still a bit too early to hear any really solid feedback.

I'm not sure if the Gateway acquisition was a good thing or bad thing. IMO, EMachines was doing fine already financially. They got bought by a company that has struggled to turn a profit for several years.

It is never too early to tell if the reliability is there. If the manufacturer has questionable manufacturing techniques (Dell), then you will get a larger number of complaints right out of the box.

The merger with Gateway is both a blessing and a curse. The merger should force eMachines to improve their bad tech support hours and policies. The merger has also resulted in a push by the traditionally low-end manufacturer into the high mid-range category when it comes to their laptops. You have quite a few people, though, that would never buy a Gateway due to their "past indiscretions."

I own the M6809, and it has been one of the best systems I have seen to date. Granted, I do not know its long-term reliability, but the same system is good enough for Voodoo to charge $3500 for the same shell and basic components (CPU, Motherboard, etc). You will most likely have no complaints if you purchased this system.

    Good luck!

I read that review last night and its a very good one as reviews go. I was wondering for best buy warrenty? can you do it by the year and what will it cover? I really really really like the spec's and the price but being a student in a low paying job I can't afford to buy a computer and if it breaks buy a new one so I need the security of knowing if something goes wrong I'm ok. I'm not to worried about tech support because I usally can figure it out for my self.

If you can afford the extra $300, then it is a good idea, if only for peace of mind. For folks on a budget, the $200 plan from eMachines direct might be a better deal (even two years for around $120 might be considered).

The problem with these warrenties is that they will promise you heaven just to get your money - let's face it 300 bucks is 1/4 of the price of a brand new laptop - and then forget everything they have promised. It is not always the case but usually when they have to replace your laptop the "brand new" replacement will be actually some refurbished junk that will need repair pretty soon again. As for the battery replacements things are more solid but .. Warenties somehow always end up voided when they have to be applied. Just go by a notebokk or any electronics from Circuit city and you will see.

    e-Machines laptops rock

It is actually very common for a "manufacturer" to actually be a reseller, or and assembler, especially smaller companies and boutiques.
