    Hi,

I couldn't resist the deal of a $350.00 computer from e-machines and decided to give it to my dad for father's day and he's not a power user so this 15.6 inch notebook was perfect.

One thing I didn't want on it was Vista. I hate it on my other notebooks, so I got rid of it. That left the option of xp and the RC version of windows 7, so I installed windows 7 in hopes that the vista drivers would work.

Everything installed fine and even windows 7 after updating had a driver for the ati radeon express 1200 integrated graphics, but where I've encountered a problem is with hibernation and sleep. It just won't do it with either the driver from microsoft update or directly from ati and I even tried the emachines emd620 display driver from their support page.

So, my question is. Has anyone came across the same problem with installing windows 7 on their e-machines laptop. It looks like it goes into hibernation, but it never comes out; just a blank screen and the same with sleep. I'm reducing this issue to the incompatibility between the vista display driver and windows 7 rc. What I'm wondering is if anyone has any solutions.

The only drivers I've installed so far is the audio realtek driver and the ati radeon express x1200 driver, but windows 7 took care of everything else. It's funny that there is no driver link for this laptop on the e-machines site. It's a good notebook, don't get me wrong. I've just got a few bugs to work out and need some help from someone that might have encountered the same issue.

    Thanks

I would bet its the chipset/acpi drivers from 7.
you might try to install the vista ones that came with the laptop
you'll have to do it in comapability mode

Thanks for responding. After a few hours of searching and trial and error, I think I solved it.

I've tracked down all the drivers for reinstallation for those that are doing a fresh install for either vista or windows 7. Emachines provided no discs with the notebook. They just provided an advisory to backup what you already have. Anyway, here's the link to the drivers for those that have purchased this notebook but want to start from scratch.

It seems, I didn't install the fast ethernet lan control driver which made both hibernation and standby freeze on resume. After installing this driver, hibernation works fine. Haven't tried standby yet, but started it up and hibernated about half a dozen times with no problem. Hopefully thats it fixed.

So, basically Windows 7 works fine on this machine and after installing all the correct drivers and a bit of tweaking, spending $350.00 on this notebook has been a great deal.
