Emachines was bought by Gateway. I believe that HP has been looking into buying Gateway. IF that happens, Emachines MAY be elimitinated as a brand. As far as quality of their laptops, they are not great. I have heard about problems with their hinges cracking. Also, they only offer AMD processors, so limited selection there. Overall, I don't think they are a great company.

Actually, according to a PC World Survey emachines scored top points for reliability. Though now that they have been bought by Gateway, I don't know how relevant that score is (you may notice Gateway is a bit further down). Still, my limited contect with Emachines has been positive (friend's computer), though I've never used their tech support.

It's kind of a dead point, Gateway isn't making any new notebooks under the eMachines brand.

I love my M6809. It's been rock solid so far. The only problem I've had is that it developed the cracked hinges. I called e-Machines and they promptly sent me a return box the next day. I packed it up on the sameday (Thursday) and they had it back to me on Monday morning at 9:00am. I'm impressed with their customer service, courtesy, and service so far. [ :)]

The power and price ($999) can't be beat. Definately the best laptop of the 4 I've owned over the years. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=1345&

    Argghhh! I just noticed the M6810 (AMD 3400+) is now ($899)!!! I should have waited [ :(]

Oh well, still got a great machine.

There won't be any new Emachines laptops? I was hoping that they would release one with a newer graphics card. Oh well, maybe I'll get one and OC. Even though they're a year old, they still beat anything out there in the same price range.

    I second that that ReverendDC!
Every Notebook or PC manufacturer will have it's issues with their products no matter how well they try to build them. The eMachine M68XX series of notebooks have received numerous positive reviews (just google it). I've had issues with the broken hinges and even a couple of software problems but eMachines has come through like a champ and fixed them all promtly. 3 days for the hinges.

More than happy with my M6809!
