i am planing to upgrade the hard disk to 7k60, can you guys list the drivers and softwares needed to be installed with winxp pro to operate the fn key and the shortcut keys beside the power button, dvd and cd burner program, card reader, touchpad and the scroll and what other drivers needed to operate the laptop as it was configured by emachines?

any feature wouldnt be working after upgrading?

lets make a post so other users in the future can refer to it when fresh installing winxp pro

by the way, the machine is great in every aspect except the slow hard disk

    Hi blue,
That is a great drive, I just got one and it helps perfomance you would not believe.
Unless you have a real desire to reinstall windows, you could do as I did. If your notebook has a bay that an extra hard drive can added, just put the new drive into the bay and clone the C: drive the the new drive using Ghost, then take the new drive from the bay and put it into the notebook as the C: drive. That way you can continue to use your old drive a place to perfrom periodic backups of the entire system. I had to buy a hard drive bay adapter for my thinkpad, but it was only $40 and now I can do a complete backup or restore of my entire drive in about 10 minutes.

There are other ways to duplictae your system over to a new drive as well like using a USB hard drive and backup to that then replace the system drive and restore from the USB drive or if you have a DVD burner in your notebook, just backup to DVD.

If you want to do it your way and start over, the manufacturers website should have all the drivers you need.

    thanks Jack

I am planning to change the file system from ntfs to fat32 since the later is faster thus double the performance by changing the drive and file system, also want to get rid of all the pre-installed junks.

I went to emachines site but nothing refers that they offer any download, however my main concern is to configure everything and not left without drivers, so any advice about the drivers and softwares I asked about in my main post?
