After 3years and 4 month mine is still going strong. Can't really justifying a new one. Granted I don't use it all the time, only when traveling. I am really impressed with the quality of this laptop.

I am somewhat hoping it is going to break so I can buy a new one.

Anyone else still out there who uses one?

I still have three of these and have fixed up and sold 4 others to friends.
I don't use them EVERY day but, one has Vista (gets a 3.4 for video 4.8 to 5.1 for the rest) it is a M6805 that I put a 3400 in with 2 gig ram and 7200 rpm 120 gig HD. It still beats ANYTHING new with INTEGRATED graphics and a heck of alot of the others till they get to 7600 and above. I bought this NEW from BestBuy 4years and one month ago. All have been bumped to 2 gig (thanks Newegg) the rest were all purchased on Ebay for between $80
    and $360

I've just recently upgraded to a sager as a Christmas present to myself last year, but my 6809 is still running strong. I upgraded it to 2G of memory.
Anyone know where I can find drivers that support WPA or WPA2?
I can't dig up the Broadcom chipset that it uses.

Yep, M6811 3years and 5 months. DVD-RW functionality is gone and there are a few hinge cracks, but otherwise I am very happy. Don't think it's worth investing into RAM upgrade though.

For me, it was a decent investment.
However, my brother's LCD is now dying. It's basically "fading" to white.
Is it an LCD problem or a backlight issue?
I'm assuming LCD, but I haven't been able to find anyone with a similar problem.

LCD for sure, but giving the age, backlights might be next as well

    cheers ...

I am still at the original 512Mb and are following the prices, but the huge price gap between DDR and DDR2 is somewhat distracting, I guess I am counting down to a replacement witin the next year or so (I have no idea what a good replacement might be, though).

the latest P-17xx and P-68xx machines seem to fit the pattern of a good solid "m68xx" model - meaning would last and last; if u are into this screen size

oh, and dont be bothered with all the complaining threads/posts of the P-17xx and P-68xx, the good old m68xx experienced the same "backlashes" or more in the early days just as much

    cheers ...

My M6809 is still rockin after 2 1/2 years. I have one stuck pixel (barely noticable) down on the taskbar down near the clock. Other than that it's been a daily driver and runs flawlessly. I just ordered a new 15.4" glossy screen on eBay to upgrade my M6809. It doesn't really need it but I like the way the glossy screens look on other laptops. I also found and just bought another M6809 for $200 on eBay to give to my son. I can't say enough about this laptop... Its Great!!!

My charging port is pretty much dead on my 6805, so I'm looking to upgrade now. Still, lasted almost 5 years.

^^meaning the power jack? give it a go and fixt it yourself, a few bucks on the part, and patience. And it might last you another 5 years

    cheers ...

My dad's 6805 is still doing great. He complains it's quite slow, but that's probably because he's got plenty of junk that has accumulated over the years. We upgraded the HDD to an 80GB 5400rpm (the original died) and the RAM to 1.5GB.

He did go through the whole hinge-cracking nightmare and had it RMAd twice. On the second RMA they cracked his LCD panel and he was without it for 6 weeks. So when the hinges cracked for the third time, he just let it be. It looks ugly, but it still runs pretty.
