I am having an issue. First of all, I did a stupid thing...dumped XP Home and did not back up any drivers. Second, I upgraded to XP Pro. I found many of the drivers off the web, however I am having an issue with SP2. When I upgrade to SP2, now the machine does not shut down right away. When I click shut down, the screen goes to the background, wait 30 seconds, and then gives an error that "explorer will not respond.". So I end it. Then it eventually shuts down. When I turn it on, it goes throught he startup and when it gets to the background, it takes 45 seconds to actually load. And then sometimes windows freeze when I am in the middle. Funny thing is that there is no issue without SP2 (which is what I went back to). I assume that I am missing a driver somewhere that is necessary, and SP2 makes the fact that it is not there more prominant.
Has anyone run into this? Or, does anyone have a list of the drivers that are needed for this machine? I do not have the CD3 (driver disk - it is at home and I am not near it).
Thanks,
James

I had the same problem with my newly acquired m6805 when I tried to install SP2. I upgraded the bios the the latest one for the m6811 and then reinstalled SP2. Now everything works great. I used winphlash with bios #0f07.p00 I don't have xp pro though, I still have the home version. I don't think that will make a difference though. I hope that helps.

Which drivers do you actually need?
I formatted my HD and installed XP Pro which detected virtually all of my devices.
I upgraded to SP1 and I'm using the Omega drivers for the video card.
I think I might have used the sound card driver from the recovery DVD but other than that I think XP installed everything else?
Let me know what is missing and I'll see if the files are small enough to email. (I have the M6810 btw)
Tell it like it is...NOT how it should be -
I forgot to say that I will be installing everything once more later this week when I replace my HD

The bios that you upgraded. Even though it is not for the 05, it will work on this machine? Where did you get the bios update?
I will try the bios, if it works, and then see about SP2.
Thanks,

I got both the winphlash and the bios off the AMD forums links. The bios are not through emachines directly. After some careful reading, these are not supported by emachines. I guess they are very picky about upgrading any bios or changing any OS's. I have the bios file and the flash program. Both files are about 4mb. Let me know if you want me to email them to you. Please read up on these carefully before using it. I was pretty scared when I did it because if you ruin your bios, your machine is dead. I bit the bullet and tried it, and it works for me. Start here and do some researching.I hope it works for you.

MD:
Thanks for all your help! I ended up upgrading the bios 05 earlier tonight, and after praying a little, it worked. Then I added SP2 and no lags or problems shutting down. But then I noticed that there was a problem with the battery. When it was unplugged, it constantly showed that there is no juice. Obviously, that is an issue. After a little more searching, I found out that the 05 machine can handle up to the 11 bios. So I did this. No problems, battery icon works fine.
Now, if I can figure out how to keep the power management from kicking me down to 800mhz when it is on the battery, I will be good to go.
Also, I assume that this voids the warrenty, but then again, I would assume that upgrading to XP Pro does the same thing. I am going to have the laptop looked at in a month or so (to replace the hinges) - hopefully they dont give me a hard time!
