I bought and M6805 at Best Buy a couple of years back and have since decided to sell it as I have another laptop that better meets my needs. I offerred it to a friend who is interested but I wanted to make sure that I sold it to him at a fair price. Anyway, here are the details. I am interested in what you would say would be a fair price.
Emachines M6805
512MB Ram
60 GB Hard Drive
DVD/CD+RW Combo Drive
A 3 Year Extended Service Warranty through Best Buy that expires in February 2007 (Transferable)
Samsonite Laptop Bag (I bought it for $60)
Also, my hinges were cracked, but I took it to Best Buy last month and the Geek Squad replaced the entire screen with a newer brighter glossy screen. They also fixed the headphone jack which I busted the first week I got the computer.
Anyway, since it's been remanufactured with better parts, has the extended warranty (at least for a little while), and comes with a pretty sweet case, what do you think it's worth?
Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Well, with the fact that the warranty is almost up, and that you can now buy a pretty decent laptop for cheap, I'd say that system would be about $800. You probably could go a bit higher with the glossy screen actually, and the DVD/CD+RW is a plus... but gotta remember that those same features can be found in a brand new laptop (with a full warranty and probably at least a cheap bag) for roughly $800-$1000.
But the recent improvements and the bag make good selling points, not to mention a decent amount of RAM. Depending on what you were thinking of offering, you could possibly even go closer to $900, but I wouldn't go too much higher if you really want him to buy it, as the higher you get the more temping a new unit is going to be ;-) -
what's the processor? that's lik the key of the machine.
If it were a celeron, it'd b close to worthless -
Wow $800? I was thinking it would be more like $600-700.
The processor is an 1.8Ghz Athlon 64
Another fact that I forgot to mention is that it comes with a ton of software including the entire Adobe CS2 Premium, Autodesk 3d Studio Max 8.0, Corel Wordperfect Office X3, Trend Micro PC-Cillin Internet Security 2006, Roxio Easy Media Creator 8, Nero 7 Ultra Edition, Ad-aware SE, Spybot S&D, and I've completely optimized the whole system. Not to mention that I wiped it clean and re-installed the OS before I had Best Buy fix it up. -
I'm also putting on awesome audio programs including Sony Vegas 6, Sound Forge 8, Sony DVD and CD architect (latest versions), the entire Waves Diamond Plug-in set, etc., etc., etc..

Well, a comparable system (without the Athlon 64) I'd say would go for loser to $600-$700, but 64 bit systems definitely raise the price a bit.
As for the programs, if you truly purchased those and are giving him the actual software with the system, that is defintely something to raise the price. If you are providing it through other means (*cough*), it probably wouldn't be a wise idea to make the price any higher based on the software... -
I wasn't charging extra for the software. However, some of it is paid for.
It's just a benefit for him because he gets it setup, optimized, and fully stocked, ready to go. Doesn't have to spend any time doing anything except using it.
He actually called me today and said that his IT admin at work told him the processor was slow. What do you people think about that? I told him that he's not getting the top of the line but for the price he's getting a pretty **** solid machine. It's also 64-bit which of course means nothing to him. He was concerned about the complaints about cracked screen hinges and I was like "dude, I told you I had that fixed and they gave me a better monitor in the process".
We'll see...I think for $600 it's a pretty good deal. -

As for software, if you give him the box/ all cd's ( including backups) and all documentation, you can transfer ownership. If you are still going to use the software you need to uninstall it form his machine. All of the register keys point to you. You should have wiped (min7 pass) the disk clean then do a clean install, eliminating all personal info from the machine. Now if he does any ilegal activity all of the pointer are to you. He's off the hook and your in the slammer.

I already did a clean install of the OS.

I actually just sold mine today for $650 on ebay. Though this is with a 1gb Crucial SODIMM installed internally. Others on there have been going around the $400-$500 mark on Ebay.
