Just got a M6811. They told me it had two slots for memory. But alas only the bottom 1 is accessible unless I want to invalidate the warranty. What I want to know is, is it possible to put PC 2100 ram in there (I have this onhand from another laptop).

    Thanks,

I assume you know there is a 256mb stick of ram in the user accessable slot. That said, from what I have read the M68xx notebooks are somewhat picky about ram. Some brands work and others don't. I would guess mixing pc2100 with the inaccessable pc2700 could also be a hit or miss proposition. If it did work there may be a performance drop as the system will likely default to the pc2100 speed. Good luck nodiseos.

First of all, why would you want to downgrade yourself in terms of speed, just to save a minimal amount of money? I would definitely stick with at least PC2700 RAM.

Mixing and matching RAM has always been a touchy thing to begin with. I have never, nor ever will, mix speeds in a notebook. It causes enough trouble in desktops. Highly recommend against it, even though it is possible.

Speaking of being picky about RAM, I have an M6805 and it doesn't seem like PNY PC2700 RAM.

I picked up a 512MB PC2700 sticklet from CompUSA and plugged it into the customer slot. (I used proper ESD procedures too. :) )

It starts to count up the memory but then hangs. Power cycle and it would count up again to another amount and hang. Sometimes it would just count up to the amount in the non-customer access slot, try to boot and hang.

If anyone else has any other experiences with different RAM brands, or if I'm doing something wrong, please let me know.
