    Ok,

I have discovered the workaround for the emachines 6809 2.0 ghz on batteries.

I clean installed Windows XP Pro, and then installed all the drivers except for the Processor Driver, simply because I forgot to do so.
I discovered that on batteries the System Properties said it ran at 2.0 ghz. OK...I thought. So the next morning I DL'ed CPUZ to test my theory, and sure enough I was right. On batts it "felt" like 2.0ghz, and the batterie life showed it, almost dying in less then an hour and a half. Pros: you have full power cap'n! Cons: you cannot change the proc. speed via battery options in Control Panel, (this is still a not-so-sure) AND your battery dies FAST, very FAST.

So, I am happy, but also sad...haven't tried PowerNow yet, to maybe slow the proc speed down but I will soon. Keep you all posted.

PowerNow! will drop you to 1.6GHz max (actually, maybe 1.8GHz on your Mobile Athlon 64, I have a DTR version in my HP) and cut your power consumption to ~45W max (vs. 81W for the DTR and 62W for the Mobile). It's a very worthwhile tradeoff.

    Wonderful!

however I have yet to download PowerNow! to see if it CAN be installed on my Computer, having trouble with it in the past. Well, I guess I will give it a shot...

    thanks alot Brian!

Get the latest driver straight from AMD:

    http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_9706,00.html

On my HP, if I unplug and max out the CPU (Quicktime vid on fast forward) the fan exhaust is barely warm. And that's with a DTR chip, AMD's least efficient notebook processor.

I am a little confused. If one DOES NOT install the CPU driver from the recovery DVD then does the CPU run at 2.0 ghz all the time, regardless of AC power or battery power? What effect does the AMD PowerNow driver have? I am hesitant to install a driver in "Win2000 Compatability Mode" on a Winodws XP machine. Thanks.

See this thread, http://www.notebookreview.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1434 it's an alternate program I'm using and verify it works on my 6809 with XP Home. SpeedswitchXP http://www.diefer.de/speedswitchxp/
