Wow. And it sounds as if the company is blowing it off too! :

    Thank you for contacting eMachines.

I understand that you notice cracks on the hinges of your M6809 eMachines
computer and you are inquiring about the stand of eMachines regarding this
    issue.

I know how frustrating this may be and I know how you must feel.

Cracks on the hinges may not be covered by the warranty. For more information
about the warranty of your eMachines, please visit our web site at
www.eMachines.com. Warranty information is listed under the Customer Care
section. The direct link to the Warranty Information page is:
    http://www.eMachines.com/support/warranty_info.html
Our Service Programs page, which details warranty service on repairing/replacing
    defective parts, is at http://www.eMachines.com/support/service_programs.html

However, you could try to arrange for Warranty Service Options by contacting our
Technical Support department at 801-401-1419. Technical Support is open 7 days
a week, between the hours of 5:00 AM - 12:00 AM PST.

I could relate to how inconvenient situations like this can be and I hope that
you may find this response informative.

Should you require further assistance with your eMachines system, please feel
free to send another message. Your comments and suggestions are welcome.

    Sincerely,
    Christine

I have always thought of them as good machines. Heck they even looked cool. This isn't a hardware issue really just the outer cover...but they should still just take care of their customers![B)]

The response you post does not say that they won't take care of the issue. Some people are rough with their machines, and could be using the hinge crack issue to their advantage. All the response says it to contact them for further information.

Oh, and by the way, PC World has an article that points towards good reliability and construction issues with their machines. Check out this link:

    http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,aid,118514,pg,5,00.asp

If you did not feel like reading the whole article, the eMachines brand is rated top for customer satisfaction, better than the IBM brand.

    ReverendDC, your right I suppose.
But many people on the boards seemed suprised and where reporting finding cracks. Thats all.
According to this rating list...I should just burn mine though.
