eMachines just updated the website with their new line.

    http://www.emachines.com/products/products.html?prod=eMachines_M2352
    http://www.emachines.com/products/products.html?prod=eMachines_M6810
    http://www.emachines.com/products/products.html?prod=eMachines_M6811

Their high-end laptop now features the 3400+ chip, but everything else looks the same. No data on HD speeds that I could find.

hey, thanks for alerting us to these new releases from eMachines. It does seem that with those new 6810 series machines we're just looking at an updated processor.

I’m on my second (replacement) M68xx machine. I hope that they fixed all the bugs with the M68xx product line. To simply change a processor without upgrading the video or any of the other features is silly. Long live Extended Warranties!

The M6810 is an M6805 with a mobile Athlon 64 3200+ instead of the 3000+, the M6811 is an M6809 wiht a 3400+ instead of the 3200+. Everything else, including the 4200 RPM hard drives, remains the same.

    1. I had a defective CPU fan. The noise from it got steadily worse (it started to sound like an electric eggbeater).
    2. The USB ports on the side intermittently failed to detect USB devices.
    3. I also discovered a bunch of dead pixels and a “smudge” on my display.
    4. The rightmost hinge was cracked (unusual for a unit that’s babied).
I’ve been reading post where owners have had similar problems. So far the replacement is working fine.

I recently purchased a 6809, and am truley amazed at the performance.
I have changed the hard drive to a 7200rpm, I need the extra storage of two drives, and also upgraded the memory.
I have been playing around with overclocking the processor as well as the video. The processor has been running a 2.5ghz and the video card at 473/227. it has been rock solid so far. Playing far cry for hours at a time, aswell as running 3dmark in loops for a day. It never crashed once. So i would tend to say that anyone looking at buying a new one might want to consider picking up a 6809 as they start to close them out. mine has handled the over clocking perfect and is running much faster then the 3400. I am not sure at how much more the 3400 could be over clocked at, but for the price it might be good to pick up the 6809 if the prices are right!

    Hi Robol,

Where did you purchase your 7200rpm drive and the extra memory for the eMachines 8609? How did the install go were you able to make it the boot drive without reloading everything?

    thanks,
    John

The hard drive and memeroy came from a local shop here in South florida.
I never tried to load the opertating system from the restore disk. Just loaded from a new copy then incerted the e machine xp id numbers for windows. The performance was surprising. It made a big difference.
