Hi, i'm a new user to this forum, but it was here where i found a lot information to influnced myself in buying an eMachines m6811 about a month and a half ago.

Here is the story, I paid a lot of money for this machine, for which I'm happy due to all the specs this machine has, However the Hinges cracking every two weeks is driving me crazy, I have replaced 3 laptops now, this is the forth one and to my fortune its already cracked, this time on the opposite hinge.
I enjoy in a way getting a new replacement every two weeks, but my pain comes when i have to re-intall windows xp Pro. I always like to do a full format of the drive and create 3 partitions, then load xp pro.I done this 3 times, everytime it takes me while since i installed all these programs i need for school and music editing.

My question is? should i keep getting the same model m6811 eveytime or should i start thinking about getting a different brand as a replacement from Bestbuy as this emachine brand has failed me 4 times now.

Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks in advance!!

    XeQter.

    Welcome to the Forums!

First off, let me ask you something... your getting a new computer each time from where? Best Buy? you didn't mention where exactly you were getting yours replaced. IF it is Best Buy, they can switch out your HD, just ask them. I am assuming you got the three year warranty? (If you did mention that, and I missed it...I just woke up...what do I do first thing? why I hop on my emachines 6811!)

Back to the matter at hand.
When my emachines 6809 hinges cracked, I called emachines. They sent me a box to send mine back. However...I had read that many people returned it back to BB, successfully getting a new notebook, or even the 6811. (Please see my topic "I did it!" in the emac main for further info.) Now, I STILL have my box, just in case that WHEN and IF the 6811 hinges cracked, I can send it to emac. The Emac op assured me that when I sent my notebook into them, that it would be repaired, and it shouldn't happen again. I suppose they had isolated all the "bad" hinge covers...I really do hope so... I LOVE this toy.

I would keep the Emac 6811, even if the hinges cracked, until ANOTHER new model came out, 6813? maybe 13 is lucky after all...

I read of people in other forums being 'let down' by Emac... by what? cracked hinge covers? the occasional screwed up DVD writer? I frankly do not think Emac has been given a full chance. But this is MHO.

    I hope this helps

Yes i got the 3year warranty and also is from BestBuy, its fun to go there and get a new one replace everytime, but my concern is the installation of the operating system and other stuff, because i just hate all the crap it comes loaded with. Thanks for the reply.

Well, just ask them to swap the HD then...they will do it, no big deal.

You need to get it fixed by emachines. Every hinge will crack if it was made before a certain date, and Best Buy is most likely replacing yours with machines made then

Supposedly it is just the cosmetic casing, and doesn't affect the hinge itself, so I haven't gotten mine fixed. Got the 3 year warranty just in case

It is cosmetic, but I had the 6809 and wanted the 11. Hence forth my switch...and I got 358 "dollars" back in rebates, BB Bucks, etc. But IF my 6811 hinges DO crack I have my box already. So I think I have all my basis covered, save for switching my PSP to the 11, but I will be doing that soon enough...

Future is right though, the hinges won't crack anymore if you send it to Emac. They ahve recognized this as a wide spread issue, and are willing to repair the issue at hand.

But, either way your good to go...BB warranty and Emac, ready to step up and take responsibility for what I call a minor, and I do mean minor issue.
