Hi guys- it seems that there is a wealth of information about these machines here (especially about cracking hinges...)

I purchased a M6811 with the intention of using it as a video/ occasional gaming system but I'm finding that I can't really play 3D games (EA's Pacifc Assult) on the system- the game manufacturer (EA) and Emachines are telling me that they system wasn't designed for games. Ummm doesn't the literature on the 6811 say that it is a gaming system? Am I missing something here? I knew that laptops weren't great for games but the reviews I read suggested that this system and the Dell XPS could run about anything. Do I need to allocate some more system resources to video memory? What's the deal? Helllllpppp!

    Cheers,

    Guy

What video drivers are you running? I run doom3 halflife 2 and halo on my 6809 with no problems. If you are not running the omega drivers run them. www.omegadrivers.net If you can do a clean install of windows, of course for this you will have to have a regular install cd for windows since the one emachine provided is a ghosted image and it's a piece of crap.

Oh and I forgot to mention that once you install the omega drivers, you can use radlinker to overclock your video card. I suggest something around 400/205 to be on the safe side and this will increase framerate by a lot. It's safe to overclock your video card.
