hey all my computer is at the time where i need to put a new os on it. Need to clean it up. I Have vista, and i could install the Moblie version (or ultimate) of it, but i also have XP pro.

I was wondering if i should install one of the vista versions (32 Bit) or win xp pro (32 bit)

What do you all think? I mainly use this laptop for gaming now, so i want to keep proformance up. Thanks alot!

XP pro. The M6811 (I had an M6805) has some older hardware in there that's very unlikely to have Vista drivers, and especially with gaming, you want XP for the moment. If you have both and you want to experiment, try installing Vista and using it for a while, see if you can get things working. But I doubt you will. No specific reason, just general intuition from hearing other people's stories and knowing the hardware.

Vista will work on m6811 installed vista ultimate all drivers were present except for modem. Vista accepted the winXP driver of the original Emachines dvd. Vista rated the ati9600 as the weakest link with a score of 3.3 out of 5 all other scores were above 4. The entire M68xx series has been susceptable to random shutdowns and vista immediately aggrivated the flaw. Yes i have disassembled cleaned out heatsinks fanblades new thermal paste and removed video cable tape obstructing intake. The machine ran fine for three months but the areo interface set it off. The adjustment of set windows for best performance instead of best appearance made it run as stabely as XP
WinXP would be best for gaming. Vista's aero sets off the screaming fans of 4 second death, if you like eye candy Linux's Beryl interface runs nicely and can keep an XP partition clean for gaming
