    Hello,

I've been looking around and why isn't the M6809 available yet? I'm in New York...

Also, does anyone know more about the built-in Wi-Fi 54MBs Wireless-g and how it would communicate with another third-party Wireless Router (like Linksys)?

hey, try J&R in lower Manhattan on Broadway, they should have it, you can actually order it on the web for pickup:

Try your local Best Buy. Here in Atlanta I have gone to 4 different stores and while they don't advertise on the website or in the weekly ad, they do have them in stock. They usually have 3 or 4 M6809's in the cage.

I have succesfully used the Wireless G with a D-Link and a Microsoft router w/o any problems.

Okay, I just got back from my local Best Buy. They DO have the M6809 in stock, even though it isn't advertised on the web. I'm very close to buying one, I just have a few more questions.

Will the price drop any further in the near future? I know that no one has a crystal ball, but I'm wondering if there are any "foreseen" price drops that I can wait for -- I don't really need a notebook for another month...

If I get a router like D-link's Wireless-G Extreme, will I be able to benefit from their so-called special packet encryption that offers "double" speed over 54MB/s even?... how does that work?

Can I purchase a second battery somewhere? Even one with a longer life? Best Buy doesn't sell them and I suspect their cheaper online anyhow...

Am I able to purchase it online to save on tax? I thought I've seen places offer the M6809, but I haven't found them lately...

And finally, a big question, are the speakers loud enough? The one in this Best Buy wasn't loud at all and it kinda scared me.

Thanks so much in advance - all your comments are gold.
    Mike

No you will not benefit from the extra speed without a dlink extreme g card. However, I bought this router not for the speed increase, but because it has the most security options out of any of the dlink routers with WPA. However, it is not the easiest router to set up without at least some basic networking knowledge. But I love it, for the price range is great and constant, not as good as the cisco 1200 series APs I got to play with at work, but then it is no where near the price either.

Great questions. I'm about to pull the trigger on one of these 6809s within the next month. The one I saw at BB also had some lame speakers, but I can live with it.

PS - I just bought a backup lithium battery for the M6800 series. I called Emachines and it was $119.99 + $13.00 shipping. I couldn't find any other vendors, so I figured they were my best bet.

Please answer the other questions though if you have input!
