I just purchsed my M6805 a week ago and I love it. I DO know it needs more memory to allow the newer games to actually run smoothly. Now I have a couple of questions about this. Answer what you can.

1.)Cheaper to go one 1gig stick or 2x512mb sticks? Links to matching memory please.

2.)If I go with 2x 512mb sticks, how can I carefully open it up without breaking anything. I have seen that post with the pictures but do not see any guides or steps in what is needed to be done. If all else failed I could pay BB to install it and if they mess it up they fix it(as I watch the whole time).

    1) Always cheaper to get two that add up to the same RAM in one. The 512's are $117 at Crucial.

    http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.asp?Mfr%2BProductline=eMachines%2B+Notebooks&mfr=eMachines&cat=RAM&model=M6805&submit=Go

    2) Adding memory is perhaps the easiest upgrade. I've not done it on an eMach, but usually it's one screw to open a panel, pop the old stuff out and pop the new ones in.

I would not pay BB to do your memory upgrade. On that note Your options are limited. You can keep your waranty and just buy 1 1gb stick of memory and replace it yourself (the one module is easy access and won't void your waranty). Myself (having built hundreds of computers) would just buy a 512mb stick and install it in the user accesable spot and call it good with ~700mb of ram. I can play UT BF Vietnam with the base 512meg memory. I you need help opening you laptop let me know as I will not post that and be held responsible for users voiding their waranty.

Just to remind everyone, the Emachines has 1 memory slot that is user accessible and one that is not.

I tend to agree...I wouldn't void the warranty over an extra 768mb (max) of RAM over 1.256GB. Just use the accessible single slot and get a single 1 gb stick.

By the way, I have been playing FarCry and Warhammer 40,000 Firewarrior, with the stock 512mb of RAM. It has given me no problems at all.

I am sure some games will give you problems, but not to many.

i was talking to sum techies at BB and they said that they would replace the internal memory for $50. and they said since they are doing it, and they are certified, it will not void their warrenty (the 3 year one i have) b/c if they screw up, its their fault and they guarentee that it will work and if it doesn't, they will fix it or give u a new one. $50 sounds pretty good considering that ur warrenty will stay intact.

Guys, owners of M6805/6809, can you please verify if its video memory is dedicated, not shared? I am going to buy this laptop soon.

    Hi,

Could you please send me a copy of the dissasembly info please. I can't deal with eMachines CS anymore - I already went through 3 RMAs and I still have a screw loose under the hinge [V]. I think I just have to take care of this myself. Please send [ :)]

    Hi Orion,

If it is not too much of a trouble, could you please send the info on opening the laptop to me too. I was also thinking of giving it a try to change the inside RAM once my warranty expires. Thanks in advance for this tremendous help...

It's not the ram I'm worried about, it's the cpu. I just would like to know the screw locations, because if it is anything like the Compaq I just got rid of, a few of them will be hard to find.

I used the regular pictures that were posted to install the internal 1gig in mine. It's truely not that hard, you can use a large paper clip to pop out the internal one and install the new stick.

I am running 2 full gigs for a few months now and it runs great.
