So back in January myself and a couple other forum members had vid card problems, detailed here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=36643

Got my machine back in tip-top shape! w00t!

    Fast-forward one week ago:

My son was playin Warcraft 3, and the screen would go completely WHITE. He would pause the game and 30-60 seconds later the picture would come back. I didn't find ou about this until it started happening to me the next day. It only seemed to happen when I was using full screen apps or graphic intensive games. Readjusting the tilt of the monitor brought the picture back. It would happen several times in an hour.

It got worse as the week went on, until after a few days the picture would not come back, even if the machine had been off for hours or the whole day. Multiple reboots would sometimes bring the picture back, but never for very long.

I googled the problem, and have decided it's a hardware issue, sepecifically the video board controller (NOT the video card). Apparently the wires or solders or blah blah blah.

So here's my question: I paid 244 in January to have eMachines replace my video card/mobo, and they replaced the monitor and hinges also. It seems that I'm having this new problem because they didn't solder the video control board in properly, or some junk. Should it be warrantied by the repair in January? Or has it been too long? Anyone else have this problem and able to resolve it without sending the lappy back?

    Thanks.

If eMachines is aware that it is a common problem with the model, they won't argue with you. From my experiences, Gateway/eMachines has awesome support. I can't guarentee, but I think that they will fix it for ya.

I beg to differ. However, they *do* usually warrant their repairs. I would definitely press them to fix the issue and provide "documentation" that the issue has occured repeatedly for months since you received the machine back.

Hellmans: check my other thread! New update!

I got "awesome" support in January. But they only warranty 90-days out. It'll be another 244.00 for them to fixx0rz it. I tried insisting that it wasn't fixed properly the first time and that's why I was having problems now, but they wouldn't go for it.

Now it won't even power-up at all >_< I think I blew a fuse or fried the mobo or power switch when I cracked the case to retighten the screws. I can get a bezel and power switch for about 9.00 , and I found plenty of bottom-halves for about 100.00 . I love my eMachines too much (and am too broke) to give-up on it just yet!

I just went through some printouts I had from this forum when I was putting my case together to get Best Buy to take my eMachines back. I really loved my machine too, and I hoped beyond hope that they could fix my problems. I had HORRIBLE video problems that plagued me the entire time I owned the machine after the initial cracked hinge repair. I noticed on your January post that you had a great experience, and my initial repair experiences dealing directly with eMachines were positive as well.... HOWEVER, once it switched to Best Buy it all changed. The machine was still being sent to Gateway/DEX/Arima for repairs, but since they were dealing with a corporate client rather than end users, the service was terrible and they just never fixed the machine.

In the end, they replaced the LCD, the video adapter/controller/whatever isn't on the MOBO, the wireless NIC, and the MOBO. Ironically, doing this invalidated my eMachines restore DVD copy of Win XP Home, so I couldn't actually use the machine (which probably works perfectly now).

I had decided by this point that I wanted a new machine just based on the amount of physical cosmetic damage they had done in the course of multiple repairs, and my concurrent lack of trust in the machine (I went through 6 repairs for the same issues before I decided I had a lemon and it was time to give up).

It took a lot of time and effort, but I eventually got a full refund from Best Buy. They didn't refund my $300 extended warranty, but if you consider the rebates at the time of purchase, it all comes out in the wash.

I'm sorry you're having trouble with what should be a great machine. It just seems that when they go bad, they go REAL bad.

    Good luck on your repairs.
