Well, those of you with the M6805, know how the NX bit (AKA DEP, or Data Execution Prevention) in the BIOS doesn't work with Linux or XP SP2, it will now. Been in touch with Gateway through a good friend of mine who happens to write for a relatively large tech site, and I think we got them to do this, but they're releasing a BIOS Update for the M6805 to update the BIOS to revision 0F08 00.
"It is Windows based and flashes to BIOS version
0F08 00. The BigFix will probably be sent out mid next week. It
should be fixlet number 680501."
So yeah! Hope you guys can use this
Now we don't have to void the warranty to update it. (Which was the whole reason I contacted them in the first place)
UPDATE: It's official. Download it from:
http://www.emachines.com/support/support_info.html?prodName=M6805
NOTE: The above page only works in Internet Explorer (grr at non-compliant pages)
The update only works from Windows (It's a self-extracting/executing Windows-based flash utility)

Is there a way to pull it from a fixlet and post it? If so, possible without voiding the warranty?
I have the 6809, with XP Pro and want to use PowerNOW! Does this BIOS make it possible?
To many questions... sigh...

Does anyone know if the BIOS update that Emachines just posted for the M6805 will also work for the M6807 which is a very similar machine?

Just used BigFix to update my BIOS. It went painlessly! Now to work up the guts to try SP2 again. This will be the third try, the last two requiring complete restores.. I must say however, that eMachines Tech Support is really good. They stayed with me right through everything and were very patient.

I flashed my emachines M6807 SP2 with this update and it fixed my Fn-X keypress freeze issue. Now I can adjust my brightness. [8D]

Could we get this stickied by chance...? If it does get stickied...then I can delete this message, or any mod can....
-
Ehm..
Tried to run this program today, it ran smoothly, but now all I get when I turn on the computer is the big E, and then nothing. It just restarts itself in a neverendig circle.
I can access the bios by pressing del - so I hope its not completely f¤¤¤ed up.
I can access something if i disable both bootdrives and enable something called PXE-MOF - but that road just ends up with a nice "operating system not found" message.
Is there any hope? Will my m6805 ever see sunshine again?
What should I do? -
cheers ... -
Phew!
Im not sure what was wrong, but I disabled the harddrive from the Bios and put in the restore DVD.
Dunno why, but after it ran, everything was ok!
