Anyone replace their DVD-RW, and with what component? Mine has a selective mind of its own, and plays what it wants when it wants. Ny suggestions? Searches on upgrades get me languages I've never seen. Thanks

I replaced a Teac combo drive with a NEC ND-5500A in my old Presario. It did good burns and I never had any problems reading discs. You may want to consult with emachines to make sure whatever drive you do get won't cause any problems. Good Luck.

Ordered a new drive and will update when it comes in. After a LONG phone call to the infamous emachines tech support - who wanted to scrub the hard drive just to make sure it wasn't a virus- and ship it in for a long repair - it was just easier to purchase a new drive and put in the two screws. When disk 1 of a box set of CD's doesn't play, and disk two doesn't, and emachines wants to know where you bought the CDs, it's time to go shopping on the internet.

Does it suprise anyone that when my new drive came in, everything works? Back in business without the hassle of Emachine warranty.

What I ordered what i got were two different things, but I came out all right. I ordered a 413s from abspc.com and gor a sosw-852s. The bezel doesn't fit the computer, but we're after function over form here now. AT least(so far) every disk you put it it reads.

I have been looking for the 8x dual layer that they are using on the Gateways. Any leads?

I tried but the new drive has no screws and doesn't line up right The new bezel slopes back in at the bottom and is out at the top, but right now function over form, and it works!!!

My DVD-RW just died on me.... Just as my warranty runs out [ :(!]. It can't read any disc, DVD, DVD-R, CD or CD-R. It doesn't seem detect the disc. Tried cleaning it but it still would not work. Updated all my drivers too. Any other suggestions?

Anybody tried replacing the DVD-RW with another brand other than Liteon? What works? Can I use a boot disc to boot up from an external DVD drive?

I have never been able to get my M6811 to burn a DVD faster than 2.5 X. An email to eMachine's tech support returned many suggestions, none of which helped. It also fails to recognize disc's on occasion. Anyone had any luck burning faster than 2.5 X on their 6811? I'm using mostly 8X BenQ plus and minus discs. Actually, I used to have some 4X DVD's that would burn at 4X, but 4X DVD's are getting harder to find. Any 8X DVD I've tried to use would not break the 2.5 X barrier. Very frustrating. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.
