Looking at all the cracked hinge threads here and elsewhere I was wondering if anyone has attempted to loosen the hinge a tad. The screens on these things are very 'stiff' for want of a better word. If I sit my 6805 on a flat surface with the screen/lid at 90 degrees to the base, I can almost lift the body of the notebook off the table by pushing the screen/lid.
My theory about the hinges is because of this stiffness, opening or pushing/pulling the screen by either top corner causes a stress because of the stiffness.
I have only owned a couple of notebooks before so I don't have much experience but it just seems to me that the hinges are too stiff.
I have removed the small panel that includes the on/off switch to look at the hinges but it doesn't seem too obvious to me how the tension is applied to the hinge.
Anyone got any ideas??

They are too stiff. And it is not just you who thinks that this is the cause of the problem. So far however I haven't read of anyone actually loosening the hinges.
I intend to buy the new M6811 soon and this will be the first thing to do.And even if I can't do it - nothing else but voiding warrenty - I will take to the BB technicians and see if they can do it. This is worth trying cause there is no guarantee that the replacement won't crack again.

Bah I wish I could tighten mine. They're extra loose. And I know all screens have some play, but we're not talking about that. My screen has about 30 degrees of play in it. I can't make it stand at 90degrees because it keeps falling one way or the other. Very annoying, because the rest of hardware is top notch, but the casing leaves a lot to be desired.

RADUMA,

RADUMA,
I am there with you, but mine only moves about 10 degrees so far. If anybody has figured out how to tighten up the hinges please let us know. I'm going to deal with it until I can't take it anymore then I'm cracking it open. -
Same hereĀ my M6811 fell outside the range of defective hinges and it still developed a crack. There about 15 degrees of play with my screen.

Had my m6802 for a month, no cracks yet (Tigerdirect refurb - it came with a emachines 3 month part only warranty, what's with that? I called them and asked 'what about labor' and got a "blank stare.")
My hinge action is very stiff too; maybe this will "work on out" without cracking the hinges.
