Ok guys with the 3 year PSP, I went today to try and replace my son's bad 6809 with the 6811 because of both cracked hinges and a bad LCD display (intermittent dead spot upper right corner) and Best Buy insisted that it had to be sent back to eMachines first. My question is how did you guys get yours swapped out on the spot? What loop hole did I miss? Thanks

this sounds to me like another case of different stores within a chain interpreting policies differently and is one very big reason I avoid the expensive store return and exchange programs that cost $300+. Can you try taking the laptop to another BestBuy and see what they say? Maybe go across town to a different store from which you purchased and just tell them you've moved and their store is closer to you now...see if they treat you differently.

Well, I called one of the three Oklahoma City Best Buys, and they said no. But I called Wichita Falls Best Buy and they said they would. Please see my topic "I did it!" I called Wichita Falls first, before I made the trip down there. They said they would do it, but when I got there they said they would re credit my credit card, well it was my mother who purchased it for me, and I insisted that I get it switched out. They said they would help me in any way possible. I also mentioned this forum, and how many others had done the same thing I wished to do, no big deal. Well they did it... *UPDATE* my PSP was automatically transferred as well.

I hope this helps, any further questions, you know where we are at!

Thanks for the insight, I'll try my other local store next time. I allowed them to send it off to eMachine. The store I went to is brand new, open about 3 weeks now. They said that eMachines is still probably going to tell them to credit me back for the purchase price due to it not being cost effective to have to replace LCD screens. Next time I'll try my other local store who I know someone had good success at. I'll keep you updated.

Well even though I was slightly disappointed when Best Buy sent my sons 6809 out for repair instead of replacing on the spot with the 6811. I will admit I'm extemely pleased at this point to have the notebook back in our possesion (right to our door) 1 week from the day it was dropped off at Best Buy. They replaced the entire LCD screen, I'll keep you informed on how it holds up. At least I won't be spending the weekend reinstalling all his games back on it for him.

    Hey mehmetumur,
First off, a 100gb harddrive will never amount to 100gb. It is always somewhat smaller ;). My 100gb happens to be 93.5gb. 86 seems a little low, I'll admit.
Now, about the exchange, it depends on when you purchased your notebook. If you have purchased the notebook within 14 days from today (meaning that you haven't had the notebook for more than 13 days), you can go to BestBuy and exchange your notebook for a different one. Be aware that they might offer you a restocking fee. Normally, that doesn't exceed 15% of the product's original price. If you have owned the notebook for more than 2 weeks, I'm sorry to say that you are stuck with it.
I also might add that if you get your notebook repaired 3 times and take it in for a 4th, they can call it a defect and let you choose a different system. Self-inflicted damages are not included.

I work at best buy (not in the computer department) and let me clarify something about the dreaded psp... First we must look at what psp stands for: Product SERVICE Plan. It means that best buy will SERVICE your laptop for three years, not hand you a new one. If people would only take the time to actually read the contract they signed then there would not be this problem. Secondly, it shouldn't make a difference what store you visit to fill your psp, because what happens is one of the techs is going to enter your service plan info into a computer, link up to the same server and same database as any other best buy, and tell you if they are supposed to send it off or flat out replace it. Now I say it SHOULDN'T make a difference because it all depends on how much of a push over the manager is.

HOWEVER, the PSP also states that if the product is repaired three times, it will be considered a lemon and will be replaced by Best Buy. Just wanted to throw that out there. Most of the customers that purchase the PSP understand that the process is to service the machine three times.

Unfortunately, all Best Buy stores do not enforce the procedures the same way.

I endured 20 months with a lemon that didn't work and was repaired 7 times before it was replaced simply because it was outdated enough that they couldn't get components.
