I purchased a M6805 back when BB first started offering them. At that time I also purchased the BB replacement guarantee (price matched to the emachines 3 year warranty).

My hinges are cracked, the screen is wobbly, and sometime when moving the computer and/or the screen, the picture flickers on and off (like the connection is losing it's contact or something).

Anyway, I'm wondering what my options are as far as getting a replacement computer or mine fixed. It's been over a year since I bought the laptop (Feb. 2004), so my computer is out of the original emachines 1 year warranty. I assume this means that Best Buy needs to get it fixed somehow or provide me with a replacement.

I would kind of like to get a replacement computer because although I love the power ot the M6805, I hat the size. I've realized over time that I would prefer something somewhat lighter, smaller, and hopefully with more battery life (and the new glossy brighter screens).

With all that said, what do you think my options will be when I take my computer back to Best Buy? Also, is there any thing I can do in order to make things go the way I want them to?

Thanks in advance for your advice and help with this.

You still have 2 years left on you BB warranty so you can take it back there and they should offer you a replacement of equal value no problem. You could probalby even get something a little more expensive if you cover the price difference. BB is real easy when it comes to that kind of thing.. Hate to see you leaving the emachine band wagon, but if you want to keep the emachine, you should just contact emachine support and they will send you an overnight box to ship it back to them to fix the hinges (know emachine design flaw) at no cost to you even through you are outside you warranty date. Good luck.

So BB won't keep my laptop for 6-8 weeks to fix it? That leave me witht he dilemma of choosing a suitable computer from Best Buy's current offerings (not loving it). Any duggestions?

Also, how much money do I get to choose a replacement with. I think I bought it (have to check the receipt for sure) for $1399 with $250 in MIRs. Do I get to use all $1399 to choose a new computer?

    Thanks again.

BB doesn't fix laptops, so they won't have it at all, they will just want to give you suitable replacement.. I'll have to check to see what BB has in stock and I'll get back to you on my thoughts there.. As for how much $$$ you get I would imagine it would be the full purchase price, but a call to BB would be your best bet there.

Emachines should still repair it, as it was a production flaw.

Had the same issue a little while back with my 6809. Brought it into Best Buy, they sent it to Emachine for repair of the hinges and a bad LCD. I had it back in my hands 1 week from the day I dropped it off at BB. Very fast turn around time.

    gmenfan,

Were you still in your emachines warranty period when you took it back to BestBuy?

Also, did you purchase the replacement guarantee? If so, do you still have it for the rest of the 3 years?

Here's my experience so far with my eMachine M6811. I sent my laptop to eMachines to replace the cracked hinges over a week ago now. I called the help desk and they told me that they replace the LCD screen when they repair the hinges and that the LCD screens are on back order. Big surprise. The very friendly support person said that they have many people that have been waiting for a replacement since January, so it may take a while. I'm very disappointed to say the least. I've read on this board about many people having a 3 or 4 day turnaround when sending their machines in for this repair. Now they tell me it could take months because parts are on back order. I wasn't the least bit prepared for this. Anyone else had this happen? Thanks.

Usually people don't reply in the negative. Therefore, I think it's safe to assume that it hasn't happened to a lot of people yet.

    stylee,

Do you really think they will just replace the laptop or send it to emachines for repair?

Gmenfan seems to have his repaired by bestbuy.

I personaly think they will just replace it.. But that is my opinion, and my buddy agrees with me, he works at best buy. But I believe your best bet is to call or stop by best buy and ask them.. You don't have to agree to what they want to do. You can push to get it replaced. Remember the customer is always right.
