I asked emachines what they are doing to address this problem.
NOTHING and Warranty will not cover it. Take a great tech design
and wrap it in cheezy case and what do you get.... A Gateway
notebook. My old Gataway Solo's screen fell off after many years
of service. Everything still worked great except for no screen!
If I invest $1500 in a notebook I want it to last - I guess it
won't be an emachine!

Thank you for contacting eMachines.
I understand that you are inquiring for information on what actions eMachines is doing to address the issue regarding the screen hinge cracking of the M6805 and M6809 series.
I know how this may cause you some concern and I know how you must feel. eMachines replaces the notebooks if it was received with cracks upon purchase. However, product exterior cosmetic damage, including without limitation, cracked, scratched, broken or modified parts (e.g., exterior housing, LCD panels, etc.) are not covered by the warranty. In this regard, the cracks on the hinges of the notebooks that transpire after the purchase is not is not a part of the warranty coverage.
You may view the coverage of the warranty by visiting our website at http://www.emachines.com/, go to Warranty and ESP under Customer Care.
I am glad that you took the time to send us an email and I hope that you may find this response informative.
Should you require further assistance with your eMachines system, please feel free to send another message. Your comments and suggestions are welcome.
Sincerely,
Christine

Hello m2tech,
I am not surprised to read Emachine's response. I guess Emachines is very good at hiding behind the fine-prints of their Warranty document, rather than taking responsibility of a well-established problem. I realized this when I had to sent my M6805 back for a bad RAM module. They promptly sent it back to me without repairing, citing an excuse that the notebook had XP-Pro installed in it, rather than XP-Home that comes pre-installed. This extreme violation of configuration voided my warranty, even though it was very clear (and recognized by their Tech-support also) that the problem the notebook was having came from a defective memory, and had nothing to do with OS or any software. I had to go through a long process to ultimately get it repaired. You can read the whole story here:

For this 'Hinge cracking' problem, obviously everybody is playing baseball with their notebooks. Emachines cannot be held responsible for stupidity of their customers..unless, of course, you buy an extended warranty... -
The Hinge issue is Very well documented here i suggest you Read it This is not isolated. I for one have this problem both hinges are Cracked

Ajvett,

Sorry,Pdasg
well it seems iam mistaken i either i didnt read your whole post or i didnt notice your link to the thread i also posted iam sorry for being stubborn. I said what i said im my post is becuase u accused other Emachine notebook owners of cuasing the Crack "Playing baseball with the notebook" as you put it that is not the case people like me who spent 1700$ on a notebook like me, iam not even done paying for it yet and this pissed me off to no end. Emachines need better Quality control and they need to bug Arima to change the manufactoring process of the Notebook case or redesign it. -
i probably wont get Emachines new M6811 as a replacement because it will be based on the same chassis and will likely crack again, and Emachines will get more and more complaints as time goes on. Then what will they do? Probably forget about the costomers and Blame us and call it Normal Wear and tear.

Ajvett,
I understand your sentiment. Guess, now you know that I did not really accuse others of "playing baseball" with their notebooks, and my idea was just the opposite. I am also as p***ed off as you are (and as anybody else) about Emachines ethics about providing service. My notebook has not developed a crack, yet. But it is not really a good thing to keep your fingers crossed all the time, fearing something may happen any time. Hope Emachines reads these posts, understands the sentiments of their customers and make some changes in the way they do business... -
I called Tech support and was given the corporate offices 800 number. The customer service rep said We are aware of the problem and were looking for a way to resolve this issue. If we can resolve this issue, you will be contacted. If not then well address it as a cosmetic issue and do nothing. !!
Everyone give them a call @ 801-401-1199
Im sure BB would replace my M6805 (extended warranty), but why should I move all my data just to go through this again with the next unit? -
Are you sure that the m6811 is built on the exact same chassis? BB is letting me exchange my 6809 for a 6811 for 50 bucks. I have to make up the price difference because I'm bumping up a model. I was hoping they would just make the hinges a little sturdier or longer with the new model. I don't want to get my new one and be back up there a week later with the same problem. It would also be nice to know when they will recieve 6811's.
-
Yes it is based on the Same shell and Chassis look at the M6810 same as the M6805 with a faster CPU and the M6809, is the same as the M6811 except with a faster CPU.
-
the M6810 does not have a DVD Burner only a CDRW/DVD combo the M6811 has the DVD Burner.
-
If you notice on eMachines website the pictures of the 6810 are the same as the 6809. You can see that it has a DVDRW.
