Seagate Debuts 400GB Desktop, 100GB Notebook Hard Drives
June 17, 2004
5GB Drive Fits CompactFlash Slots
Seagate Technology has announced an array of high-speed, high-capacity storage products set to reach OEMs and retail shelves this summer and fall.
The new line is led by the Barracuda 7200.8 series, a new generation of Seagate's popular desktop PC hard disk family with capacities up to 400GB, up to 16MB of buffer memory, and a choice of Ultra ATA or the first native Serial ATA interface with native command queuing. Seagate will also offer a 400GB external drive, as well as smaller, USB-bus-powered 100GB and smallest (pocket-sized) 2.5GB and 5GB drives.
The company has also upgraded its 2.5-inch notebook hard disk series with 100GB Momentus 7200.1 and 5400.2 drives (named after their spin speed), continuing that family's tradition of robust shock resistance (up to 800Gs when not operating).
Finally, the ST1 series of 1-inch hard disks will offer 2.5GB and 5GB capacities for pocket music players, with the same capacities available in new CompactFlash Photo Hard Drives for digital cameras. Pricing for the new products has not yet been announced.
Thanks
