I'm thinking of buying one but can't find any reviews online. Does anyone have an opinion on this model. For the price it seems awesome.

[?] More specifically; wow would it compare to the toshiba a45-s150, which ends up being $150 more after rebate. I noticed the m5309 has a nicer screen. But I don't know how an XP-M 2500+ compares to a 2.4Ghz P4-M. My main interests are DAW applications, especially running soft synths. I am also not concerned about wireless networking.

I just bought the emachine m5309 last week at best buy for i think it was about $900 or something a little more after rebates. The screen size, resolution, scroll feature on the pad, and the price is what made me go for this one. I like the display--it's good enough for what I do, my job is internet-based and a lot of word processing. The only feature I didn't want was to have a wireless card sticking out, but I decided to compromise because of the price. If I had an extra $1000, my choice would have been a Fujitsu N series. I do like the Athlon XP-M processor, have no experience with the applications you mentioned, though.

Can any one who has the eMachines M5309 tell me what kind of battery life they get? Thanks.

there is a really great review @ http://www.epinions.com/content_130598997636 for this m5309 notebook. i just got back from bestbuy and i am really considering this laptop now. the review is quite informative and worth the read!
p.s
about how much does this emachine actually weigh? i've read 7.7 total travel weight. what exactly is that? i've also read the 6.6 reading and i asked the guy at bestbuy and he said that was the total weight w/ the battery. whats the difference? -

First off, I bought this computer at Best Buy for $950 after rebates and even though it's slower that my desktop and the video card isn't as nice I can't get away from my m5309!!! I love the widescreen on it and even though it is the 9200 Radeon (shared) 64MB memory I still have no trouble playing all of my games on it. The battery life if just using in windows (web surfing or typing) and brightness turned down is about 3:45 for mine. Gaming drains the battery to about 1:30 or so. I would also say that the computer does weight 7.7lbs travel weight with the battery and everything in it. If you want to have this for school or as your only computer i think it would work great for either. Anyone have any questions post them and I'll try to get back to you.
