Just a bit of FYI, I had a problem recently with my M6811 getting so hot that it tripped the alarm and shut itself off automatically. It did this at least once per day for the last month or so. What I did was simple. I checked the two air vents on the back of the machine for outflow using my hand. The larger one seemed to flow ok, but the smaller one had no outflow at all. I blew into the smaller one, and got a huge puff of dust out of it. I blew into it twice more and that cleared the dust blocking it and some outflow could be felt. I blew into the larger one as well until no more dust puffed out. Sitting with the machine in my lap, I notice a huge drop in temperature. The fans don't come on very often (they ran 24/7 before), and my battery life unplugged has improved by 25 minutes!! (Those cooling fans draw a lot of power). Ideally, you would want to open the machine up and blow all the dust out from the inside, but I am not technically inclined enough for that and my machine is still under extended warranty. Don't open yours up if you can't handle it or don't know what to expect!! I am not responsible if you screw up your computer by opening it up. So if you are having heat issues (it probably would help any notebook/laptop, not just emachines) then blow out those vents!!! It might save you having to buy a notebook cooler.

That's sound advice. Poor air flow is a common reason why machines get hot. eMach are a little worse than others, so you may also want to consider a cooling mat when at your desk.

Holy crap, that was exactly what my laptop needed. It was running hot as hell for the last 2 weeks, but after blowing in the vents and having all the dust come out, it's just as cool as it was when I bought it. Now my hands are actually warmer than my laptop.
