Hey guys.. This is my first post so please be nice to me
I was reading the forum for the emachines LCD screen...cracked hinges, dim screen, etc...So I've come to a choice...
1. Sell the laptop, by a new one...(this time I'm thinking about a small, mobile one...i take my laptop everywhere so this m6805 was horrible to me...weight wise)
2. Fix the screen, change the inverter, fix the wires...Unfortunately, my warranty has been long since over so I cannot do that. I'm not very confident in opening up my laptop to fix it either..I'm thinking about bringing it to a computer shop and getting it fixed.
I bought the laptop two years ago in April 2004 from Best Buy. Since then, I sent the computer back twice. Once for cracked hinges, and the other for a messed up cd-rom drive. About two months since I got the hinges replaced, the flickering started and ended up just becoming a dim screen.
Frankly, I'm starting to get tired of this laptop and want to get a new one. But then again, the laptop itself isn't that bad..it's just the screen which is annoying..I think my eye sight is getting bad too because the screen's so dim and has weird colors... (got two new glasses already)
Thanks a lot for the help!

I can't help you with your decision, but man am I ever glad I persisted until I got them to give me a refund. My problems started with the cracked hinge defect and progressively got worse. It seems that a large percentage of folks who had the cracked hinge repaired had further video issues afterward.
You might be able to find parts on ebay or from Gateway and find a local place to get it fixed. You'd have to ask around for recommendations, I guess.
Good luck with your decision. I know what you mean about heavy. My M6811 was very heavy in my opinion. You can get a lot lighter machine nowadays. -
I myself would get a new computer. I'm sure that if you did fix it, your eMachines could last long after now, but I personally love opening and first booting up a new computer. If you're short on money, fix it. I know that these machines are capable of 10 years easily.
Emachines M6805...to fix or to sell and buy a new laptop..
