Bought a 6809 two weeks ago. Everything works great except the mini-pci wireless G card. Actually the card works but when on my Linksys B router the speed is worse than dial-up. Anyone else experience any thing like that? Called tech support and nothing worked...Ahhh

Also try a faster browser. Mozilla Firefox loads pages more rapidly than Internet Explorer.

My linksys B is just as bad. I tried a D-link G router, and it is lightning fast. The router is your bottleneck.

Interesting....I have a Linksys 'B' router (a BEFW11S4). Sitting two floors below it with my notebook (6805) I am getting speeds of over 3000Kbps through Comcast.

Something doesn't sound right with your setup.

I would plug your notebook into your router's hub with a Cat5 and do a speed test. That will tell you if it is your ISP or your wireless setup.

that 3mbps is what comes out of your modem, and plugs into the WAN of your router. The speed is then cut, somewhat, due to interference in the wireless transmission. Linksys b routers have pretty bad throughput. It is really fast if you plug it directly with ethernet, but that's not wireless.
Funny, my Dad's name is steve, he is a doctor, we have a linksys router, we have comcast,... but he doesn't have an emachines book. Small world.

Well I'm getting between 2000 and 3000 down wirelessly. There are a ton of speedtests at www.dslreports.com

Hah! I'm not a doctor - I live in MD :) But my name is Steve [ :D]

Andrew is right, it is the "B" part of the router that is causing the problem. Your card is 802.11g CAPABLE, but the router is only putting out an 802.11b connection...this one maxes out at 11mb/s. Getting a G router (they go for about $50 now) will get you theoretical throughput of 54mb/s, but an actual of about 15mb/s

    Good luck!

I probably will get a 54G router but I think the problem is that I have three 5.4Ghz cordless phones in my house and that is causing all kinds of interferance with the eMachine's wireless card.....

That has to be it. I'm having absolutely no probs with my B router and G notebook (6805).

Although...doesn't the G spec also call for 2.4GHz like 'B'?

802.11a uses 5.4 ghz, but b and g use 2.4ghz. You should experience no interference between your phones and router when using 802.11g.

Got the D-link Extreme G for $46 from Ebay works great with the eMachines..I also figured out my old router problem..My neighbor has a Linksys B router and I was picking up his extremely weak signal instead of my own, that's why my speeds were worse than dialup!!
