    FYI

My 6810 has worked great until a couple weeks ago. It started shutting down after a cold (temperature was normal indoor) startup....the fan came on full speed and the computer would completely shut down after 4-8 seconds on the fan.

I tried a number of things.....putting in the fridge and starting it...no joy.
I tried putting a cooling rack under it to promote better air flow...no joy.

Then a I read a thread that mentioned taking off recently added software. I recently added a clock app called ClocX ( http://www.clocx.net/)....great app.

I took it off...which was pretty tricky to do before the computer would shut off again....and all is well.

Now, the fan comes on at a normal speed and the computer does not shutdown now.

So my issue was not hardware or blocked fans or XP SP2...it was a software app that was somehow crashing out my computer.

So try uninstalling any new software before doing anything else....there's an old adage..."it was working great...so what did you last change before it broke?" Fix that first.

That's strange that that little clock application might have been the cause of the trouble.
