Has the hinge problem on the Emachines on the M6xxx been resolved? If not if the hinge cracks is it just cosmetic(LOOKS)?Or will it affect how loose the monitor is? This is my MOST MAJOR question on my laptop.

    Thanks

I don't think if they have fixed the cracked hinges issue but from all i know on the subject its only a matter of looks and dose not effect the notebook other then that. It will open and close fine and be protected. emachines is not the only line with this problem but I think they have it in a higher percentage of units then other company's have.

The issue has been resolved, not necessarily solved. THere was a batch issue with N304x serials. Those systems with that serial number were pulled and replaced. This is why the M6811 came on market briefly back in August, and then was abruptly pulled. This might also explain the shortage of Voodoo machines at the same time as the ODM is the same, Arima (in fact, the top end Voodoo and the m68xx series are the same barebones system). Apparently there was an issue with how tight the hinges were being attached.

Despite what you are hearing from many people on this forum, this issue affected MAYBE 15% of the owners of the machines in question. Certainly this is a higher number than is acceptable, but it was not every single system sold. In fact, the serials on my M6809 are right in the middle of those reported to have issues, and I have not experienced anything but love for my machine.

I still feel happy with my purchase. I can also understand why others are not. I mean, my m6809 cost more than my car. I am serious. Hinges cracking 6 months after purchase is like car doors falling off after 500 miles. But, if it makes you feel any better, the Gateway 7405GX is the same exact computer as the m6809 with a different name badge attached. I have not heard any issues with that model (knocks on wood).

Well, there is my take on it. Sorry I did not get back to you on that sooner-making a living honestly sucks sometimes.

    Good luck!

Sorry, no IM. But I am usually pretty good at getting back to folks who e-mail (except when I have to work on Christmas Eve and Day and Thanksgiving...grrrrrrrr).

I have said this on other threads. eMachines has fixed the cracking hinge problem. My LCD shell which includes the plastic hinge covers was replaced back in mid October. My hinges have not cracked since.
