Hi,
I have an eMachines M6811. Not that I have been dealing lots of problems (hinges, replacing a keyboard etc.), now I got a display problem. I had these lines and more while I was playing NFS:MW. All of sudden, it went back to Windows and it's like this from that time.
This is not my screenshot, but my problem is just like this.
What do you think?
Thanks, lng

Looks like the video card is dying. I'd try updated drivers, but if that's no help then I'd look at the hardware.
-
I already tried everything software based, it looks like hardware problem. I brought it two different service centers in manhattan. One of them said it will cost 700-800 dollars, the other said 600 dollars.
I just called emachines, they said it is going to be 244 dollars, including shipping and repairing. They are going to send me a box.
Everybody thinks they are service experts when they have a screwdriver.

I have the same problem with the 9600. (m6805)
Curious, was your laptop out of warranty? I contacted emachines and they said they cant fix it because im out of warranty, but to send it to one of their authorized dealers, bestbuy etc. I really dont want to spend 800 to fix it, thats more then my laptop probably costs now. -
Yes mine is out of warranty too. When I contacted them first with online chat, they told me the same thing. Take it to a Best Buy etc. Don't do that, they are going to overcharge you. Call Gateway 1-801-401-1199 and tell them your problem. They will advice you to change motherboard and will send you the box overnight. I sent mine two days ago and still waiting for it.
By the way, I hate these online chat guys when they send me automatic replys like "It seems that you are using 512 MB RAM, do you want me to show upgrade options?" etc. I just want to ask my questions directly, but they keep doing that. Once I pissed off, told them: "Do not give me automatic answers from your computer sitting in front of it, i want real answers to my real questions", then the guy started to write himself.

I'm having the same problem with my M6805.
My display went bonkers Friday night while playing Psychonauts and has been unusable since. I have not been able to play World of Warcraft all weekend and am becoming unstable and potentially suicidal.
I know it's not the wire or LCD inverter becuase I have the same problems using the VGA-Out. I had been using the Omega drivers, but installed the original drivers to no effect.
Came here first for suggestions... Funny how the three-plus of us have all succumbed to the same malady within a week or so of each other? The online chat tech gave me the "corporate" number (the same number lng posted) and could not help me any further since my lappy was a whole 3 days past warranty. lng, I'm eager to here how fast and expensively yours is returned to you. I'll not last the week without my precious and can't afford the 244.00 you quoted. -
First time I talked with "tech" guys on chat, I tried to convince them it's just happened all of a sudden and I did not do anything wrong. They gave me same answer again and again: They can't do it in warranty because their system won't allow them.
I am doing all my business from my laptop, so I agreed to pay 244, I believe also I jumped it after I heard 600 or 800 dollars in NYC.
I contacted with them last friday, they told me, they are still inspecting it. I don't know how long it is going to take, but they told me I should expect the laptop back on this friday.
shaun.de.los.muertos, I hope you find a better and cheaper solution, but I tried almost everything software-wise, but BIOS upgrade. Maybe BIOS upgrade can be a solution, I am not sure.

I tried reflashing the BIOS to no avail.
244 isnt that bad at all, thats probably american though no?
I found this other site on the net, and they said it would cost $400 to fix the motherboard or to get a new it would be cost $500 american!. So looking at the 244 isnt bad at all! Im thinking about calling emachines today to get an RMA. Hopefully they fix it and i can begin playing games again!
Ing, did you give them your credit card for prepayment or are they going to bill you after? -

Called em Tuesday afternoon. I'm waiting for the box and return labels now. Be prepared to give them your credit card number up front. I backed-up my hard drive just in case.
-
Awesome, i should do the same, maybe ill call tomorrow. I wonder if they would do it for me because i am from Toronto, Canada. I guess ill just have to find out! Let me know how long it takes them to finish it and return it to you.

Just got my M6805 back this morning... Very decent turn-around. DHL picked it up only last Friday.
I gotta say I'm really impressed. Best 244.00 I've ever spent. They refurbed the hinges while they had it, so the monitor and lid assembly has been replaced. They even replaced the missing rubber feet, fake memory cards and scratched-up metal covers on the bottom!
My HD is intact so no need to restore it from backup. The first thing I noticed is that the fan isn't running as loudly as before and I can't feel any air being forced out of the vent in the back-left of the machine. This is the only thing that worries me...
Well I'm off to reinstall the Omega drivers ^_^ me and my lappy have alot of catching up to do! I hope everyone else has as pleasant an experience as I did. -
Ok i called them today January 30th, ill keep everyone posted on when i get the boxes and labels, when i ship it out and when i get it back!
For the record it was $244 for me as well.
Can't wait till i get it back so i can play my games again, its been awhile!

Update:
I received the box and labels on the 1st of February and i shipped it out on the 2nd of February. Ill let you guys know when i get it back and the details on the fix!
Fingers crossed!
