I recently turned my emachines M6809 laptop in to have the dvd burner fixed. Emachines put in a newer/better burner that works great, here is the problem. It is an LG 4080N (or at least that is what microsoft hardware manager and sisoft sandra tell me it is) and I cannot confirm this from emachines since they have no record of what dvd burner the technician(s) put in my machine...just that they fixed it. I am wondering if anyone out there knows where I can get any firmware updates for this burner since I've been google and msn searching with no success. I would prefer someone who actually tried the firmwarm update (if there is one) point me to where it is since I've found 2 links that say they are the firmware, but they are not working. Thank you for your help.[?]

Maybe nothing (some dvd's not burning at max speed...which the burner is rated at 8x), mostly just want to make sure I can find out where to get the updates, so even if I don't need one now, I can get it later if required. Plus I can't seem to find a page displaying the specs of the burner (besides 8x -/+ R) so looking for that also.

What is wrong with it that you need a firmware update?

I'm getting ready to install a DVD Rw into my M6805 so I can burn DVDs are there any pictures in the forum or is there anyone here who has done this?

the americal firmware does not work, tried it.

Generally, slim optical drives do not get a lot of firmware support.

Taichi13,
I believe that is the same burner that came in my 7405gx, GWA4080N. I have never been able to burn over 6x speed with a half dozen different kinds of media(Nero says it is burning at 8x but burns then take twice as long as are supposed to) and there is no new firmware floating around as of yet. It really does need a firmware upgrade. -
I would be more concerned about the quality of the burn than the speed. The best media to use with this drive is Taiyo Yuden. It takes around ten and a half minutes to burn.

Ive not done the flash for your particular drive as I own the m6810.
I did do a flash upgrade from that site, as mentioned in this previous post:

Please keep in mind, using hacked firmware will more than likely void any warranty you have.

I've come across that firmware before, unfortunatly its GSA4080N and not GWA4080N. It is a different burner. Scroll this page and you can see the differences in the lg models.

Sorry about that - did not pay full attention to the S & W letters [:I]
I was playing a couple of DVD's last night and I'm finding that the playback is stuttering [B)]
Defragged all my drives and still the same scenario - played a divx conversion movie on CDR and it runs as smooth as silk...
I even tried a short DVD Shrink session and it blasted through the movie without anytrouble.
I noticed that Win DVD was not playing my movies at all...but Power DVD would in a "stuttering" fashion. You know like you don't have enough power/resources to produce smooth playback?
Have uninstalled Win DVD and not sure what to do next...I've not actually flashed my DVD drive as there is no firmware update for it as yet either - I have only used the LiteOn unlock/reset tool which presumably is not in violation of any warranty agreement. The DVD has been working perfectly for weeks since it was unlocked so I presume this is unrelated?
Any ideas?
Tell it like it is...NOT how it should be -
I expierenced dvd stuttering after installing The older Omega ATI drivers. After installing the 2.5.97a driver the problem went away. If you are still using the stock drivers then I'm not sure what else it could be.

I appear to have lost the ability to type correctly [:I]

Problem solved - I had actually changed from using AVG Free Edition anti virus software to AntiVIR.
Well AntiVIR (although supposedly the best freeware AV) was casuing the problem and running at 100% CPU!
I uninstalled it and all it normal again [8D]

I just installed a Mat****a UJ-810 Burner into my M6805 and now I can't get it to read DVDs and is there a software or firmware update I can get for this. I checked the one site listed but dont know which would be compatable since that model is not listed.
