The CD lens of the DVD/CDRW drive in my emachines 6810 has gone kaput (and 10 days after going out of warrenty, of course). I would like to put in a new drive myself, but I am not sure how to get at the parts to do the replacement. I've done several of these on a desktop tower, but have never tackled the inside of a laptop before. I think I would be considered rather "handy" at doing these kinds of things.

Can any of you help me with the steps I need to go through? Or am I simply better off swallowing my pride and taking it to an out-of-warranty repair shop here in town.

Open the drive tray, turn the laptop over, remove two screws near the edge of the bottom, gently slide the old drive out. Reverse steps to install new one.

Thank you for the quick help. I thought that might be it, but just wasn't sure. This is a great forum, looking forward to exploring more!

Is this the same to replace the optical drive in my M2350?

Probably. Take a look and see. The two screw holes are pretty obvious.
