I installed a 3400+ in my notebook and took out the 3000+

the new chip does not come with the insulator tape on it like the 3000+ and I was wondering would if hurt to use a Thermal compound on the chip to help keep it cool?

Yes it is absolutly essential that you use it. Get soem artic silver etc from new egg and closely follow instructions how to use it.

Do you still need the vid drivers, I suggest using latest omega's they give much better performance then teh stock drivers that I will send you if you still need them.

yepper I can still use them.

A funny thing has happend I reseated my the chip and applied the artic silver and now LOL this thing is now stepping down to 793MHZ on the battery. Wonder what caused it. Guess I'll have to reinstall XP Pro to get back to my full processing speed,

I was under the impression that any of the liquid compouds would dry out over time and become less effective, and that unless you plan to reinstall the heatsink every few months phase change tape was the way to go.
