A friend of mine who lives in PA bought an eMachine about 2 weeks ago. A few days ago the machine locked up fully and when she did a hard reboot as was recommended to her by the Geek Squad at Best Buy the machine started to go into a boot cycle where it gets to the Windows XP Load Screen, flashes a BSoD and then restarts, bringing her computer to the Boot Selection screen (safe mode, regular, etc.). She recorded what happens with her webcam on a secondary laptop and send me it and I was able to do a screen capture of the BSoD.

Her machine didn't come with a recovery disk and from what I can tell it seems like it needs the boot sector or the MBR rebuilt. With her not being able to afford a XP CD, I am in quiring as if there is a way that she can rebuild it without the CD or what would need to be done. I included a picture of the BSoD below.

It seems that the error points to a corrupted OS or a bad drive.

If the machine has the COA key at the bottom, you can try borrowing an installation disk and use the key to activate.

    cheers ...
