I was wondering if anyone here who own this model could give some feedback on the performance and overall quality of this model. They currently have the model listed over bestbuy for 949 before rebate. Also appreciated if someone could give me some feedback on how the AMD Sempron processor stack up to other models, including the 64. Thanx in advance.

Hey dot, are u sure it's 599. Is this price at just particular bestbuy or is it for all best buy cuz I don't think I saw this price listed on their site yesterday or is it listed anywhere on techbargains or any other bargain site. Appreciated the response.

I just purchased the eMachine M5405. I can't find it on the site but I did find a review in PC Magazine - Iss. 21 2004, by John R. Delaney.Editor's Choice Award. He says that it,
"leads the pack in features and performance. Widescreen display, strong performance, multimedia keys and volume control on keyboard. Cons: no firewire ports - all three USB ports are in the back.
Every so often a product comes along that raises the bar for the competition. In this case it's the eMachines M5405. This 6.6 pound beauty is sleek and powerful, a rare combination in a value notebook, and it's our Editor's Choice Winner. The M5405 incorporates the new Mobile AMD Sempron 2800+ processor, which helped it earn top scores in performance. It's also the only value notebook here to offer a 15.4-inch widescreen display-and it's an impressive one. The 1280-by-800 resolution screen has an excellent viewing angle and rich colors. The three USB ports are all on the rear: we wish at least one were on the side. Though its YSmark scores and wireless range were impressive, the M5405's battery life was average: 2:38. The Compaq Presario V2000's battery lasted the longest at 3:26, but it does have a smaller screen." Based on this I bought the notebook at BestBuy on a sale that started Thursday and ran through today - for $599 after rebates. Everywhere else, including J&R, it was $999.99. A great buy.
Will let you know how I like it after I start using it.[ ]
