I was going to go all out and buy a 2500 dollar satellite or XPS or something. Then i thought better of it, and decided to just get a cheap 700 notebook to satisfy my mobility desires, and a 700 dollar desktop to satisfy my desires to play FarCry and EQ2.
But now the 6809 has perked up my interest, if I could get a decent notebook that can game and is almost cheap.. I will sacrifice a little in the hight end graphics and get a 1400 dollar notebook.
Is that good logic?

I have never purchased the extended warranty for any thing in my life, and I have never needed it for anything in my life. So, I have definitely made the right decisions in the past.
Is it a no brainier to get the extended warranty from best buy with this notebook?
Does any one know how much it is?

My opinion is yes, though M6809 is $1500:
$1650 - $100(manuf.rebate) - $150(BB rebate) + $100(approx.taxes) + $0(shipping if you buy from BB) + $XXX (warranty) = $1500 + $XXX (warranty).

I would say it depends how much you plan on using the battery. The plan costs $300. That would cover two batteries. eMachines has a plan for $189 that doesn't cover the batteries.
Me? I'm a gambler. I've never purchased extended warranties either and have never needed one. So even if I get stung on this purchase I'm still dollars ahead in the long run.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
BTW... I doubt you would be happy with a $700 desktop for gaming. eMachine's desktop lists an Nvidia Gforce4 MX video card. That would likely have too slow framerates to play Far Cry.

Not to get too far off the subject but you can get a pretty damn good desktop computer for 700. Dell had on sale a 2.6 P4 dimension 2400 for 350 dollars a few months ago. Add to that on your own 350 dollars worth of memory and video card you can't go wrong.

Umm... then it wouldn't be a $700 pc anymore. It would be a $1050 pc that's *still* not fully up to speed, gamewise.

Wait a minute, I just reread your post. You're saying Dell had a pc on sale for $350? And another $350 spent would be all you need for gaming? You shoulda bought it! That's a deal of a lifetime!

I think the m6809 is the best power-notebook for $1500 on the market right now. Get the extended warranty if you have the budget to cover you for as long as you want to own and use the unit.

At any price, the m6809 is one of the best multimedia notebook available. Its insides are stable, the GPU is overclockable with ease up to 400mhz safely, and 450mhz theoretically, and the widescreen is bright and clear.
Benchmarks show that it keeps up with 3.2 ghz P4EEs (in other notebooks), and it comes with a multiformat burner. It is one of the few notebooks (Acer, Voodoo, Hypersonic, and HP Compaq produce similar models) that will get better with age with the Athlon 64. What more could you want? The price is just an added bonus.
By the way, it will play FarCry with ease. -
I just bought one from best buy a hour ago.
To excited to even use it, now I have to go to work, and I will let the battery charge.
I heard you can over clock the vid card as well, is that accurate?

I donno about you guys but I would go even cheaper with a notebook and buy the Hewlett Packard Pavilion zd8215US PC Notebook
Its a really affortable price and will play at a resonable pace. -
6809: is this a good cheap gaming notebook?
