Ok... so I have been cruising the net and all these message forums in order to decide how, and with what, to upgrade my 6805. I decided to do it all. I decided that once I was finished I would share my experience with you so that you might benefit a little, as I have from those posts before mine…

I put a 1GB memory chip in, and I bought the Hitachi 7200 rpm 60GB hard drive. I also put a fresh copy of XP Pro on the new hard drive.

The problems that I ran into were very few. However, should you prepare a bit better than I had, you should have no problem upgrading anything.

The memory was a cinch- there is one screw and two clips. That's it. Just be sure to purchase compatible memory- apparently they are not all compatible. Anyhow- don’t be scared about this upgrade. It was easy. However, it was the first upgrade that I did and I cannot say that I noticed a vast improvement at all.

Secondly came the hard drive. WOW!!!!!!!!!!! I would definitely advise anyone who currently has the crappy 4200 rpm hard drive to upgrade. It was worth every penny. My machine runs 50 times faster.. ok that is an exaggeration.. maybe 10 times.. seriously!!

The problems occurred when I installed a fresh copy of XP Pro and there were no drivers for the audio, cpu, video, wireless, ect….

Cd 3 that came with the machine has all those… and it should be on your current c drive under c:drivers… if it is there copy it to a cd or external or whatever first. You just can’t download all the drivers- especially the darn video driver!!! So save yourself time and don’t try to download them… one file I downloaded had a virus.

But now I don’t have the roxio easy cd creator, the powerdvd, or any other software that came with it… not a problem if I was at home where my software is- rather I am over-seas.

So… if you plan ahead a bit better than me.. you will be ok… or you could always just reinstall the home edition that came with it and go from there.

Let me know if you have any questions..
