I really would like to see a usb 3.0 eGPU. From everything I have heard it would be just as good or better than the express card speeds.

As an owner of a sager np8170, I have no really easy way to connect an eGPU without having to remove the keyboard and wireless card. I know there will be driver issues, but I see no reason they couldn't be modded.

I would like a USB 3.0 eGPU as well, but BPlus did the experimentation finding drivers were a major roadblock. From the Thunderbolt, USB 3.0 and PCIe 2.0 eGPU update:

USB 3.0 Products - PLXtech's USB3.0 to pci-e adapter has been demonstrated working with a desktop video card attached to a USB 3.0 port here.

Wait... So is the USB 3.0 to PCIe adapter working, or is it a no go? I'm on my phone right now and can't see the Flash content.

Is USB 3.0 as fast as m-PCI? I thought PCI was faster... If not, just plugging in a whole new GPU into any laptop just with a USB cable would be revolutionary (sort of, in terms of how a GTX 570 is way faster than a 6650M :D)

USB3 tops out at 5Gb/s. A single PCIe-x1 2.0 lane tops out at 5Gb/s. It isn't going to be any better than current solutions. It'll work for non-gaming video applications but that's about it.

Almost a year later. Ivy Bridge is out. Is this still not happening?
