    Goodmorning guys!
i'm just new here...i need your support from pro to newbie :p

I'd like to buy an eGPU device, but honestly i don't know what is better for me! PE4H/PE4L/PE4C 3.0/ PE4C 4.1/EXP GDC BEAST V8.0? it is better PE4x or EXP GDC?

I'm not interested in gaming performances, actually i use mainly my laptop for work: Autocad/Photoshop/3dsmax/after effects

I have an "old" DELL Precision M6400 workstation in which i've upgraded everything was possible!

    DELL Precision M6400 specs:
    cpu: intel QX9300
    ram: 16GB (4x4GB)
    video: nvidia QUADRO FX2700m
    chipset: Q43 (from DELL website)
PCI Express Revision: 1.1 (from INTEL website)
PCI Express Configurations: 1x16 (from INTEL website)
Max # of PCI Express Lanes: 1 (from INTEL website)

Right now I have no problems with Autocad or Photoshop, but in After Effects my video card sucks!

I'd like to combine to eGPU device a graphic card with lot of CUDA cores, what do you suggest? It's better QUADRO or GTX?

Better an EXPRESS CARD connection or Mini PCI-e?

    Thank you sooo much!

Sorry, I'm not familiar with the CPU/GPU (Quadro/Geforce) usage of After Effects so can't help there, but just wanted to post a few observations.

You didn't upgrade the graphics card (strongest ones would be M7820 or perhaps Quadro 5000M from the M6500), although if you want to use eGPU that's a moot point.

Express Card vs mini-PCI-E should both be 1x (or at least, the same speed as I'm not sure of the standards supported by the chipset on the M6400 TBH), but ExpressCard sounds more convenient given you don't need to route the cable.

Since the M6400 has only the dedicated GPU card, I'm not absolutely sure if the external graphics is supported here to begin with; if so, it would only work on the external display.

Hey, did the eGPU worked on the M6400? What cards did you put? Thinking about buying an eGPU...
