Hi guys!
I'm thinking of purchasing a DiY ViDock to "adapt" a HD 5870 ( or 6870, I don't know... Or even a 5770 or a GTX 460... Will they work? ). But, I would like to know :
I have an ASUS N61Jq-JX040v, how do I know what type of ExpressCard I have? I have searched all around the web, but couldn't find any info.
Now, what do I need to have DiY Vidock installed properly? I know I need a PSU, a mini-hdmi cable, a C2MS "conector" ( or how it is called, all I know, it is needed to connect the GPU to the ExpressCard ) and a GPU, right? What else do I need? Is it just buy the cables, the connectors, the expresscard, the GPU, plug in, and I'm ready to go? How do I change the OS to use the HD 5870 instead the Mobility HD 5730?
Yes, I have read 10 times both threads made by nando4 and moral_hazard about the DiY ViDock experiences and "How to configure Vidock", but it is too much tech talk for me. If possible, is there a way to tell all that stuff more "gently"?
PS : The GPU most plug in to a PE4H ( that's the only thing I know, because it says it is some sort of x2 1.0 of something like that, and every one tells it's better ), and then output to the expresscard? Am I right? And then what? How do I configure windows to use that card?
Appreciate all kinds of answers and replies, and will get lots of rep in return!

Your system doesn't have a Intel HD primary graphics, so can't do a x1.Opt setup (NVidia), nor can your series-5 chipset do x1E (ATI), so you'd get cripped Intel x1 1.0 performance. Either solution would be slower than your HD5730.
Suggest sell up and get a Sandy Bridge notebook that will have a x1 3.0 expresscard slot or a current system that can do x1.Opt (eg: Dell E4310/E6410/E6510 with Intel HD graphics and expresscard slot) if you really want something faster than you current have. -
Now, why can't I do x1E? What is wrong with my chipset? It will be crippled even with a 5870?
And I can't sell this PC, my parents gave it to me... So it has some emotional
value... -
