Is 660ti too much for bandwidth of 1.2Opt?

    I have a Lenovo x220t i7 with 8GB ram.
I want to use a 660ti with an EGPU setup.

Will the 660ti crush the bandwidth available with my expresscard 2.0 and my HD3000 graphics using 1.2Opt.

I'm worried games will stutter and freeze because the 660ti is too fast for it even with 1.2Opt.

Should I get a 560ti or even a older 400 series to optimize use of the bandwidth?

I don't mind setting 16bit mode. I play that way now. I'm sure that might help some.

Can I underclock the 660ti to optimize bandwith use?

Thanks for all the help. This a great forum.

The 660ti would never stutter with a lower bandwidth. The only thing 1.2opt would do is not let you use the full potential of the 660ti. The one issue you will face though is that because you are using a sandy bridge dual core processor, CPU heavy games will be bottlenecked such as Battlefield 3.

But no, a stronger, faster card will not cause your system to freeze or stutter.

That's exactly the game I want to play.

    I'm getting a 660ti today.
And purchasing hyperx 1866 memory to see if that will help.
    I have an i7.

hoping that BF3 will work ok with it.

I've seen youtube of BF3 running on x220t and it looked pretty fast.

Will the BF3 performance be unpayable?

By no means Battlefield 3 will be unplayable for you. I'm able to play it at a consistent 30 on high with the resolution lowered a bit; I'm also running a 560 and i5. You will definitely be able to crank up the graphics for BF3. Not ultra, but it will look a whole lot nicer than consoles :).

Btw, if you ever need a good squad mate to play BF3 hit me up, usernames in my signature.

Thanks I will do that when I get it all set up.
    It will be a while.

I'll likely only run it on the laptop screen most of the time. So it will only be 1366x668. That will help some.

That will run it fine, then. At that resolution with your setup, I actually wouldn't be surprised if you'd be hitting a consistent 40+fps on high, maybe with a few settings on ultra. Good luck!

Faster memory won't make any difference in your performance since you won't be playing with integrated graphics. No game will be "unplayable" with an eGPU solution. You might not be able to play at ultra settings at max resolution, but even a cheap eGPU solution will be comparable to a high end notebook GPU setup.

I figured ram would speed up IGPU for optimus

    I'll test with and without

I'm benchmarking reg speed 8gb now
    Will test fast ram tonight
When I get pe4l I'll test both again with egpu

Threading off and 1 vote helps a good bit
