Yesterday in the middle of a gaming session I had my computer shutdown but this one was not the usual crash, everything shut down, and after a few moments I realized that my entire office was dead. I went down to the basement and found that the circuit break had popped when I went to reset it it instantly tripped again after unplugging everything I was able to reset the CB and continued gaming for hours without any further power interruptions but I started wondering what the heck had happened, this house is only 5 years old and I know that the electric system is properly designed. It should take 20 amps to trip that breaker and I should have plenty of capacity to run my gaming rig, This led me to pull out the KillaWatt meter and run a quick test, I plugged the surge protector that has my PC, Monitor and and 2.1 speakers into the meter and measure Amperage and Wattage at Idle and during Asus Real bench stress test, the results are below.

    Stock CPU/GPU Idle 1.08A 117w Stressed: 2.97A 344W

    OC CPU @ 5.0
    Stock GPU Idle 1.14A 124W Stressed: 3.33A 388W

    CPU @ 5.0
    GPU +100/+150 Idle 1.18A 125W Stressed: 3.92A 400W

Nothing here that would pop a CB, I was a bit surprised of the added amperage form the GPU OC, it seems a lot for so little OC. I'll have to check out the other things plugged in. I wonder what the 1080Ti will draw...

Phone, Lapotop streaming, lamp total .66 amps.
Laser printer printing a test page 5.0 Amps not in use at the time of the CB tripping

What makes you think your desktop PC is the cause of the tripped breaker - could be anything else in your office or in the elecrtrical system right? Maybe even an external one off issue, maybe some kind of power surge unrelated to your entire house - a surge on the national grid that made your breaker trip. I'm not an expert on this, just thinking out loud. I wouldn't worry about it, unless it happens again.

My first thought was that I bought a Bronze level PSU, lol, but I think that a bit of a stretch. I'm not sure what caused and I'm just sharing my results and making use of my KillaWatt.

KillaWatt is pretty useful, I always have it connected to my desktop, and used to have it connected to my laptop - I just like to know how much power it's using - my desktop only uses a max of about 280W (not including monitor) when gaming. The 1080ti you're gonna get, I think they're a 250W card, so they use as much as your 980ti, and I think I saw in a review on a watercooled 2100Mhz 1080ti it using about 300W (just talking the card itself, not the whole system).

EDIT: here's the article showing the power usage of 2.1Ghz watercooled 1080ti: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/geforce-gtx-1080-ti-water-cooling,review-33822-2.html

Does that wattage include your monitor?

20A is in the power range for an electric heater. If your computer uses that much power it will generate as much heat as an electric heater and you will be opening the windows and /or turning on the air conditioning.

Not including monitor. 280W is just for the tower (and my headphones, barely worth mentioning the phones!).

Lol you should use a gold level PSU at least.. Especially with the build you have... LOL I have a platinum level PSU with my build but that's a bit overkill :)

When I add the new parts I will splurge for a new one, I will also get one that's fully modular, It can't hurt having a spare around here anyway. I had to trim the budget to get below 1000 and that's one I kind of wish I hadn't.

This morning I noticed that the surge protector I have that has two USB charging port started acting funny when I plugged both my Samsung Galaxy 7 Phone and company issued ipad at the same time, That could be the cause of the CB tripping.

I kind of doubt it's the PC causing the problem with the draw you posted. Check outside the office for other items that might be on the same circuit, and make sure none of your outlets are damaged.

    Fair enough!

Get a Gold PSU when you do that.

Also look into what Tanner suggested, it's the small stuff like that which is probably causing the issues!
