I have a Nvidia GTX 1080ti founders (just plain Nvidia, not ASUS or EVGA, etc). What is their warranty stance on changing thermal paste/opening the HSF?

I think as long as you don't damage the PCB you will be fine. Also, keep an eye out of white paint on top of the screws holding the backplate on. They do this as an indicator to show that someone has taken the GPU apart.

I've also read that these "WARRANTY VOID IF REMOVED" stickers aren't worth the paper they're printed on. They can't keep you from working on something you bought with your money, as long as the work you're doing doesn't cause any premature failures with the GPU.

Yeah I've been reading all about that for some weeks but I figured I could avoid a little bs. But I think I should just go and ask them myself. I mean, what are they going to say considering every news source has been bringing it to light, they'd be stupid to still say "nah, your warranty is void".

    Edit:
" [IMG] Rahul: Hi, my name is Rahul. How may I help you?
    [IMG] X: Hi Rahul
    [IMG] Rahul: Hi X,
[IMG] X: I am curious, does changing the thermal paste on a Nvidia GTX 1080ti void the warranty?
[IMG] Rahul: Yes, it does Void the warranty of the card X
[IMG] Rahul: Please let me know if you have any issues with the GPU so that I can check and help you
[IMG] X: That's funny. Even though all across the US warranty stickers have been considered illegal and the FTC has sent many companies 30 days to remove the stickers. The warranty is still void?
[IMG] Rahul: Yes, the Warranty will still Void if there is any changes made to hardware
[IMG] X: Alright that's all I wanted to know, thanks for the info "

Sounds like if I do change it and the card becomes problematic that they'd be in some deep sht lol. I'm gonna ask on their forums

I ripped the factory cooling off my MSI 1080 ti Armor because it was a joke. Its one of those damned if you do and damned if you don't really. I don't think just repasting it will get your temps down to where you want to see them. The FE gpu's are a little on the toasty side, probably worse than my GPU.

If you're ok with running stock clocks at 80c+, then keep the cooler. If you would like to get the most out of it, then take it apart and replace it with an aftermarket cooling solution but, be ready to go to battle with nvidia if you try to Rma it :D

Yeah I normally wouldn't choose the stock coolers but I got it for 740 new from their website. And yeah I feel like they're still gonna be a pain (provided the GPU fails within warranty), however I feel like it would greatly work in my favor if they were to be problematic. Shouldn't be too much of a inconvenience to make a post on BBB with the updated info regarding the illegal stickers. I would just rather avoid all that and just have them say like "yeah go ahead and repaste".
