Why bother dumping all that extra expense in a thin monitor in a desktop system? You're not moving that thing anywhere...

I'm sure the tablet mode and the gimmick accessories are worth it though! /s

Geez, I'm pretty sure this is actually a pretty cool product for some professionals. Reddit had a bunch of pros who said this will help a lot.

The tablet mode is to make it easy to draw on...

It's a niche item that seems quite useful for that niche. Normal users have no use for it.

    Also dat resolution.

Talk about being an Apple wannabe!

Although it looks like it's designed well.

Yeah, I was a bit shocked when I saw 980m. Not that it's a bad GPU, just that I would have expected a new product like this to use the latest tech.

    Especially for something this expensive.

And it's not like they couldnt. MSi has a thin laptop with a 1070, for example.

Still doesn't seem to be much information on that 'dial', wondering how useful it's actually going to be.

    Microsoft Surface Studio First Look
    [IMG]
    MobileTechReview
    Published on Nov 11, 2016
"Lisa Gade spends time with the upcoming Microsoft Surface Studio and gives you her first impressions/mini review. This is an all-in-one desktop with a unique gravity hinge that allows you to tilt the 28” Pixel Sense wide gamut DCI-P3 5K (4500 x 3000 resolution, 3:2 aspect ratio) display at a variety of angles (even nearly flat). The display supports touch and the same N-Trig active pen used on the Surface Book and Surface Pro 4. The Studio is available with Intel 6th generation Skylake quad core, 45 watt CPUs and your choice of NVIDIA GTX 965M or GTX 980M cards (last gen Maxwell mobile graphics cards). It supports up to 32 gigs of RAM, and ships with a boot SDD plus large capacity SSD.

Ports are decent given the small size of the base— 4 USB 3.0 ports, mini DisplayPort, 3.5mm audio and an SD card slot. Other amenities include a 5MP Windows Hello front camera, 2.1 stereo speakers and WiFi 802.11ac with Bluetooth. The Surface keyboard, mouse and pen are included in the box (the new Surface Dial is $99 unless you pre-order the Studio). Pricing runs from $2,999 to $4,199 and it will be available at the end of 2016 to early 2017. At these prices, it’s clearly more of a showcase product and a competitor to high end Wacom graphics workstations rather than a replacement for your everyday AiO."

Yeah, doesn't look like he knows what he is doing, or had been doing it for long, or maybe being filmed made him stiffen up.

Manager, likely emulating what he thinks his staff do ;)

Touch screens and pen screens have been in use for a long time, it's not something that is impossible to get used to or learn to use well, lots of people already do it.

Up for pre-order delivery in 2017...

    Microsoft Surface Studio Review
    MobileTechReview
    Published on Jan 20, 2017

"Lisa Gade reviews Surface Studio, Microsoft’s first desktop computer. It’s not just a desktop PC, it’s a specialized artist’s and photographer's workstation with a 28” PixelSense IPS 5K display running at 4,500 x 3,000 resolution (192 PPI) that supports both touch and the included N-Trig Surface pen.

The display’s angle is easily adjustable down to 20 degrees (nearly flat) via the “zero gravity” hinge. The brains are in the base, and the all-in-one desktop is available with 6th generation Intel Core i5/ i7 45 watt laptop CPUs and NVIDIA GTX 965M or GTX 980M dedicated graphics.

The base $3,000 model has 8 gigs of DDR4 RAM and the $3,500 and $4,200 models have 16 gigs of RAM. 4 USB 3.0 ports, an SD card slot, headphone jack and mini DisplayPort are standard and the machine has Ethernet and WiFi 802.11ac and Bluetooth. The Bluetooth keyboard and mouse are included, but the Surface Dial is a separate purchase."

I think it'd be better with a regular case and a drawing tablet.

I imagine it depends on what kind of work you do, there may be some tasks that are better done drawing directly on the screen. Agreed though, I prefer a separate drawing pad if given the option.

I'm sure I would, haven't had the chance yet though. We don't sell 'em and I don't know when B&M stores will start carrying them (or if). Liked the original Surface design enough that I'm sure this one will be great.

Thanks for posting that. I find myself agreeing with most of it. Though I would say there are more professions that could make use of the studio.
