HI All, I built a desktop for my brother back in 2011. It currently has a EVGA GeForce GTX 460 1 GB GDDR5. His birthday is just around the corner, so I was thinking about getting him an upgraded GPU. I'm curious though, whats the best you think I can get him (within a $200 budget) before its bottlenecked by the CPU? The CPU is a AMD CPU HDZ955FBGMBOX Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition.
I put a SilverStone 600W Power Supply ST60F-ES (Black) in the desktop when I built it, so there should be some headroom to increase the power draw a little.
The Mobo is an Asus M4A87TD with one PCI 2.0 x16 slot in it, would PCI 3.0 cards work or would they be bottlenecked by bandwidth limitations?

I just bought a GTX 1060 6Gb one to replace a GTX 660, It was a bit more expensive and he has a higher resolution monitor, if your brother is gaming at 1080p you could look at a 3Gb version. My son plays Overwatch and GTA and love the new performance.

Yea I was looking at either the GTX 1050TI or a 3GB GTX 1060. Most of his games he runs at 1080 (or 720 for the older ones).

Do you think the system will be able to take advantage of a 1060 6gb? I guess I assumed the Phenom II X4 955 BE would be a bottleneck, but if you think games will be able to take advantage of the full 1060 6GB im all for that!

1050 Ti! I was running a 750 Ti until it died recently. 1050 Ti seems to be the best bang for the buck efficient GPU.
